Field hockey all-conference team and awards

The North Carolina Field Hockey Association, the governing body which operates the varsity field hockey teams at NCHSAA schools (the NCHSAA does not sanction field hockey)  released its 2011 all-conference team for the Eastern Conference.

NCISAA field hockey playoffs announced

The 2011 N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association announced their 12-team playoff bracket for field hockey. Ravenscroft's undefeated team received the top seed and a first-round bye.

Funsten commits to play at Davidson

Ravenscroft senior Melissa Funsten announced today her commitment to play field hockey at Davidson College.

Funsten, who will be the first Raven to play Division I field hockey, was named the TISAC conference Co-Player of the Year and Ravenscroft team MVP in 2010. She led the Ravens to an NCISAA State runner-up finish in 2010 while breaking the school record for points in a career with 47.

“Melissa has been an outstanding player on our field hockey team since her eighth-grade year,” Ravenscroft coach Kerry Norman said.

Durham Academy wins "Play 4 the Cure" field hockey tournament

Durham Academy won the “Play 4 the Cure” field hockey tournament on Saturday by defeating Charlotte Providence Day School 5-0 in the championship game. Tournament MVP Lauren Rogers had three goals in the title game, while Robin Blazing had the other two.

The two-day annual tournament, which raised money for breast cancer research, was hosted by Cary Academy. After pool play on Friday, the 12 teams were broken up into three four-team brackets on Saturday.

Area tennis, volleyball and soccer playoff scores from Tuesday

Playoff scores from teams in the Southwest Wake Area such as Apex, Cary Academy, Cary Christian, Athens Drive and Cary in sports like tennis, volleyball, soccer and field hockey.

NCISAA field hockey playoffs

The NCISAA 2010 field hockey playoffs start this Saturday, Oct. 23. The semifinals and finals will be played Oct. 29 and 30 at Charlotte Latin School.

First-round match-ups featuring area teams are listed with area teams in bold.

East Chapel Hill, Carrboro win field hockey brackets

East Chapel Hill was the winner in this past weekend's "Play 4 the Cure" field hockey tournament at Cary Academy, which raised more than $1,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
