Chapel Hill's basketball game at Oxford Webb tonight has been postponed because of deteriorating road conditions in Granville County. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 10.

SWakeSports' girls basketball rankings 2/2

The girls' side of things isn't nearly as up-in-the-air like the boys.
In fact, the five playoff spots for the Tri-Nine are all but sealed.
However, that didn't stop our SWakeSports rankings from moving around a
few teams after last week's games.

SWakeSports' boys basketball rankings 2/2

Just two weeks left in the basketball regular season. TheSWakeSports blog has already addressed the playoff implications as they stand
with the year winding down. But first, let's get to our snow-delayed
weekly boys basketball rankings. Once again, Apex is in the top spot,
and we had some swapping of teams at 4-5 and 9-10 this week.

Point After: Sorting out the Tri-Nine

There's just two weeks left in the regular season of basketball, and
it's getting down to the wire when it comes to potential playoff spots.
And there's a lot that can happen in those two weeks.

So I'm here to sort out exactly what "a lot" entails.

What you missed in Tuesday night's games

Tuesday night's basketball games featured great contests and equally
great performances by area players. If you can't wait to read about
them in Sunday's Cary News, Wednesday's Cary News/Southwest Wake News
or in this week's SWakeSports basketball rankings, here's all the info
you desire.

Cary Academy girls fall in OT: The Lady Chargers lost their
first conference game of the year to Ravenscroft, falling 80-69 in
overtime. The two teams had entered the OT period tied at 68, but CA
mustered just one point.

Cameron Walton hits nine 3's, sets school record: Cameron
Walton, the speedy junior point guard for Cary Academy, hit nine
3-pointers for 27 of his 31 points on Tuesday. The Chargers lost to
Ravenscroft 64-50 nonetheless. No word on if the nine 3's were a TISAC
record as well.

Andrejko sets school record in rebounds: This was actually
Friday night against Durham Academy, but senior Kelly Andrejko set a
school record in most rebounds in a game with 18. Andrejko also had 20
points to lead the Lady Chargers to victory.

Cary Christian needs triple OT to win: The Cary Christian boys
basketball team played about 5.6 quarters on Tuesday to come away with
a 89-86 win over Kerr-Vance Academy. The Knights were led by
Christopher Thomas and Bobby Duncan, each who scored 27 points. Cary
Christian scored 11 in the first OT, 8 in the second and outscored K-V
11-8 in the third.

Holly Springs girls take hold of fifth place: It took awhile,
but it appears Holly Springs is making its move on the fifth and final
playoff spot in the Tri-Nine. With a win over Panther Creek (4-6
Tri-Nine) on Tuesday, the Golden Hawks (6-6 Tri-Nine) have a two-game
lead for fifth and the head-to-head tiebreaker -- so it feels like a
three-game lead. PC's next three games? Green Hope, Athens Drive and
Middle Creek. Looks like the Golden Hawks will be returning to the
playoffs.

Lee County surging in standings: Last year, Lee County upset
Middle Creek and Athens Drive and was a quarter away from winning the
Tri-Eight Conference championship as a 6-seed. This year, the Yellow
Jackets (3-9 Tri-Nine) are making their move a little earlier. They've
now won four straight, including three Tri-Nine games to move to a game
out of the fifth and final playoff spot. Lee beat Athens Drive
(currently 4-7 and in 5th) 45-41 on Tuesday.

Green Hope lost to Cary 54-51 and Holly Springs also lost to Panther
Creek, which means we've got three teams with four conference wins and
one with three. Lee is the only one of the four playing well right now
-- in fact -- they've gotten back into the playoff talk by beating
those exact three teams!

Gaffney with another triple double:
Green Hope sphomore Kristen Gaffney picked up her fifth triple-double
of the year against Cary. And she needed less than three quarters to do
it in the 90- 40 win. Gaffney finished with 31 points, 16 rebounds and
10 assists. She was also three steals away from a quadruple-double. Her
Falcons (19-0) remain the only unbeaten Triangle-area team.

Scores & Standings: Tri-Nine Basketball & Wrestling

Here are the standings for the Tri-Nine Conference in girls and boys basketball, as well as wrestling, heading into tonight's games. Remember, the top five teams in basketball advance to the state playoffs, while only the top two get automatic bids in wrestling.
