Clark qualifies for Mid-Am

Brad Clark of Chapel Hill shot an even-par 71 Wednesday to finished tied for second in a qualifying round for the 18th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship. Michael Swiger of Raleigh was medalist with a 68.

Clark was near the top of a field of 31 golfers who qualified Wednesday at the TPC Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh. Another 59 missed the cut.

The CGA's 18th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship, hosted by the Carolinas Golf Association, will be played Sept. 7-9 at River Run Country Club in Davidson.

Seabolt, Seymour win junior golf titles

Zach Seabolt of Raleigh shot a 4-under-par 66 from the championship tees to win the 22nd Annual Jack Ratz Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament held at the Wildwood Green Golf Club in Raleigh on Monday.

Katie Seymour of Wake Forest wo  n the girls 16-18 title, shooting a 79 for a five-stroke victory over Alli Mossinghoff.

Ward draws an ace

Casey Ward of Chapel Hill hit the second hole-in-one of her burgeoning golf career on Monday — and it came in competition at the 43rd annual Trusted Choice Big “I” National Championship.

Raleigh-based ClubSoft merges with Boston firm

ClubSoft North America, which provides software used by golf clubs to run their operations, has merged with Back 9 Links, a Boston company that offers a tee time reservation system that is tied to a private social media network.

ClubSoft is owned by McConnell Golf, the Raleigh company founded by serial entrepreneur John McConnell. McConnell Golf owns seven courses in the Carolinas, including the Raleigh Country Club and Durham's Treyburn Country Club.

ClubSoft and Back 9 Links had been partnering for the past three months prior to the merger. Terms weren't disclosed.

Back 9 Links' two employees will remain in Boston, said Ray McDonald, ClubSoft's CEO.

Jack Ratz Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament adds July 25 bonus event

The 22nd Annual Jack Ratz Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament is a great deal for area junior golfers.

Early entrants for the Aug. 1 main event at Wildwood Green Golf Club in North Raleigh also can golf for free in a July 25 pre-tournament tournament that starts at 11 a.m. A box lunch will be served after the round.

Rouse wins Wake County Amateur golf title

Kelby Rouse's back-to-back rounds in the 60s netted the golfer the Wake County Amateur Championship title at Pine Hollow Golf Club. Rouse finished at 137 for the tournament, a stroke ahead of runners-up E.J. Scheel and Sam Stephenson.

Griffin reaches semis of Juniors championship

Benjamin Griffin of Chapel Hill defeated Elliott Grayson of Shelby, 3 & 2 Thursday afternoon in Charlotte, to advance in golf's 44th N.C. Junior Championship.  Griffin, the 2011 4-A high school champion, was to face Stanhope Johnson Jr. of Greensboro today.

Johnson defeated defending champion Carter Page of Waynesville 5 & 4 in their Thursday morning match.  Johnson, a rising high school senior, then advanced to the semifinals by defeating Tanner Owen of High Point on the 19th hole at Pine Island Country Club.

 Dylan Harris of Southern Pines and Victor Wiggins of Gastonia were in the other semifinal.

In the girls’ division, Emily Brooks of Chapel Hill defeated stroke-play medalist Emily Pagrabs of Wilmington 4 & 3 to reach the quarterfinals.  Brooks was then beaten by Kayla Sciupider of Etowah 6 & 5.
