Election Day freebies

After you cast your vote today, turn that "I voted" sticker into a few freebies.

At least three businesses in the Triangle are advertising rewards for folks who have done their civic duty:

*Sugarland, the cupcake shop with locations on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill and Cameron Village in Raleigh, is giving away free cupcakes to voters.

Bring in your “I voted” sticker and exchange it for a cupcake. Not a cupcake fan? No problem. Ask for a gelato instead.

*Tiajuna Flats locations across the country, including those in Raleigh and Cary, are celebrating "Guac The Vote" today with free appetizers for customers sporting "I voted" stickers. One free appetizer per customer.

*On the Border restaurants are offering a free order of sopapillas on Election Day with the purchase of one or more entrees at regular price. Go to On the Border's Facebook page to get the offer.  There's a limit of one freebie per table.

Do you know of any other Election Day freebies or good deals?

Updated again: Harris Teeter Super Doubles freebies and good deals list, Oct. 31-Nov. 6

Updated to include unadvertised specials.

Here's a long list of freebies and good deals for Harris Teeter's Super Doubles coupon event, which will begin at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, in Triangle-area stores.

This update includes 18 freebies and many other ultra cheap deals,  along with a complete list of what coupons to use and where to find them. If it's a printable coupon, you'll find the link to that, too.

Keep in mind, the list is specifically tailored to our area, using local store prices and coupons readily available here, either through newspaper inserts, magazines or Internet printing. No sense getting frustrated looking for a deal we can't get here!

Meanwhile, if you're going to be in Charlotte over the next week, Harris Teeter stores there will be Super Tripling coupons valued at $1 or less.

(For Super Double coupon shopping tips and Harris Teeter's rules during Super Doubles, scroll to the bottom of this post.)

Now on to the freebies and good deals for Super Doubles:

Updated again: Lowes Foods Super Double freebies and good deals list, Oct. 31-Nov. 6

This post has now been updated with unadvertised specials -- including FREE Smart Balance milk.

Here's a long list of freebies and good deals available at Lowes Foods during its surprise Super Doubles promotion, which is running simultaneously with rival Harris Teeter's event.

Super Doubles will start when stores open on Wednesday, Oct. 31, and run through Tuesday, Nov.6.

The couponing policy is similar to Harris Teeter's, with one major difference. For this promotion, Lowes Foods will be super doubling coupons up to $1.98 in value. Harris Teeter's Super Doubles event includes $2 coupons.

For a complete rundown on Lowes Foods Super Doubles policy and shopping tips on how to score the best deals, scroll to the bottom of this post.

Now on to the list of freebies and good deals:

New P&G samples and coupons available

A new round of freebies and high-value coupons is available on Procter & Gamble's Everyday program.

This is a generous and reliable source of free samples, typically arriving just a few weeks after requested.

These are the samples I was able to choose from:

Back-to-school deals (Aug. 12-18)

Deal of the week: Buy two Five Star Mead 4-pocket portfolios for 50 cents each at Target and get them FREE with the $1/2 coupon from the 8/5 Red Plum insert.

Even if you don't have kids, now is the time to buy pens, pencils, computer paper and other items considered school supplies.

Think about stocking up your home office or buy the ultra cheap deals and donate them to a nearby school or charity.

But do your homework! That includes reading the fine print. Some deals, especially some of those enticing free and penny deals, require a minimum purchase or involve a rebate.

Take a look at the very best of this week's deals:

Sunday drugstore and Kroger deals are up (Aug. 12-18)

The deals at the drugstores this week include free energy bars, free candy and free feminine products, along with super cheap deodorant, gelatin, razors, hair care, candy and eggs.

At Kroger, there are deals on deodorant, soap, Kleenex, pasta, Hefty storage bags, Nabisco snacks and Chex Mix, along with a gift card promotion that will save you money at the gas pump.

Also take note of the deals I've highlighted that have holiday savings potential. Start now, save money and be more relaxed come holiday time.

Updated: Harris Teeter Super Doubles freebies and good deals list

Updated with sale items that will continue through Super Doubles week.
Updated again with new sale items and unadvertised specials.

Harris Teeter's Super Doubles promotion, which begins at 7 a.m. Wednesday, is shaping up to be a pretty big event with numerous freebies and good deals.

Even better, several grocery items are actually moneymakers when you use a paper coupon along with a Harris Teeter digital coupon, which, by the way, is permitted by Harris Teeter's official coupon policy. You've gotta love it when you get paid to shop!

I've double-checked the prices using Express Lane, Harris Teeter's online shopping tool, and walking the aisles of my local Harris Teeter in Apex to verify shelf tag information.

I've also added deals from the new sales circular. (My thanks to HotCouponWorld.com for posting the ad early.) And finally, I've also included numerous unadvertised deals.

Keep in mind my list is specifically tailored to Triangle shoppers, using Triangle store prices and coupons readily available here, either through newspaper inserts, magazines or Internet printing. No sense getting frustrated looking for a deal we can't get here!

(For Super Double coupon shopping tips and Harris Teeter's rules during Super Doubles, scroll to the bottom of this post.)

Harris Teeter has a great deal on eggs at just 99 cents a dozen, along with a generous "meal deal" and a good selection of $1 items included in its 10/$10 sale.

In addition to its Super Doubles, Lowes Foods has a great deal on boneless chicken breasts at just $1.79 per pound and some stellar produce deals.

Over at Food Lion, take note of the $1.50 price on peanut butter and an early bird Saturday special on Doritos for $1 per bag.

And finally, there are some terrific deals on produce at Aldi, including cucumbers for 29 cents, grape tomatoes for 89 cents per pint and 3-packs of green papers for $1.49.

Read on for all the top deals at Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Food Lion and Aldi. I've also included the best of Sunday's Kroger deals at the bottom of the post for easier comparison shopping.

Updated: Lowes Foods Super Doubles list of freebies and good deals

Updated with unadvertised specials.

Here's an updated list of freebies and good deals for Lowes Foods' Super Double coupon event, which begins Wednesday, July 25.

It's shaping up to be a pretty nice opportunity to save, with at least 11 freebies and many more heavily discounted groceries.

I compiled the list using the coupons we received here in the Triangle, along with readily available printables, magazine and tearpad coupons. No sense getting all excited about a deal using a coupon that was only available in other parts of the country.

I've also verified prices and sale dates at my local Lowes Foods in Apex, taking a lot of the guesswork out of your Super Doubles trip.

Below the list you'll find a list of tips to help make your Super Doubles shopping trip successful as well as Lowes Foods' policy regarding Super Doubles.

And finally, a big thank you to the good folks on Hot Coupon World who posted the new sales circular ahead of schedule.
