If you know that intrepid bilingual wanderer Dora the Explorer, then "Dora Saves Three Kings Day" tonight on Nick Jr. (Nickelodean) is pretty much standard Dora.
Dora, Diego and Boots teach children about Three Kings Day, aka The Epiphany or the day that the Magi visited baby Jesus in the manger. The cartoon wisely focuses on the stuff little ones care about: there are toys, candy and a cake with a prize inside.
It also sneaks in some of the traditions (it's celebrated in several Latin countries) like the one where children leave their shoes outside with grass in them to feed the camel, elephant and horse the Magi ride.
Although my little one wouldn't let me sing the songs (he's never appreciated my voice!), he did stay interested until the end and he knows about the holiday now.
Here's my beef: It's touted as a primetime special, so it comes on at 8pm. 8pm! Shouldn't preschoolers be in bed by 8pm?
Nick Jr., are cranky kids your Three Kings gift to parents?
