Time Warner Cable disruptions fixed, affected 500,000 phone customers

Triangle residents were among those who were unable to place or receive phone calls through Time Warner Cable's digital phone service, the company said today.

About half a million customers, representing 11 percent of Time Warner's subscribers, were affected by the technical glitches, but it's unclear how many of those were local.

Time Warner fixed the problem at 3:15 a.m. this morning, said spokesman Scott Pryzwansky. The outages were intermittent and started at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

"The Triangle was one of the markets affected (it spanned across the Carolinas)," Pryzwansky said by email. "The issue was resolved around 3:15 a.m. this morning."

Time Warner provides cable TV, Internet and phone service. The company has over 15 million customers nationwide.

Registration open for my next coupon class, Feb. 23

Interested in learning how to save 50 percent or more at the supermarket? Or do you feel like you need a refresher course in couponing?

Registration is now open for my next coupon workshop, a three-hour class on Saturday, Feb. 23.

The class, which is fast-paced and fun, is a great way to start off the new year learning how to save more and spend less. On top of that, we'll feed you breakfast and give you a nice bag of freebies.

I'll be teaching this class, covering basic and advanced coupon techniques, in

Buy a $100 digital Walmart gift card, get a $10 card free

Today only, Walmart is offering a free $10 digital gift card when you purchase a $100 digital card.

That's a 10 percent savings right off the top. So if you were planning on shopping Walmart anyway, this is a great deal.

New 2013 Chick fil-A coupon calendar goes digital

The 2013 Chick fil-A calendar still sports its trademark cows but the familiar coupons for free food at the bottom of each page are missing.

The 12 paper coupons have been replaced by a single plastic coupon card. Activate the card with a valid email address and 12 free offers will be digitally loaded onto the card.

The $6 calendars, which officially go on sale next month, are already available in some Chick fil-A stores around the Triangle.

The good news about Chick fil-A's digital coupons: You don't have to keep track of a stack of 12 coupons, you can sign up to receive coupon reminders, and if you lose the card, it can be replaced.

The company is also hinting there may be bonus offers throughout the year.

The bad news:

Smart Source coupons for the iPad

Smart Source -- a familiar name to generations of coupon clippers -- has gone mobile.

Long a staple of the Sunday newspaper experience, Smart Source coupons are now available on the iPad. No scissors required.

Called SmartSource Xpress, the app provides "magazines" of coupons for folks to page through, simulating that traditional Sunday morning experience.

But that's where the similarities end.

Updated: Harris Teeter Super Doubles freebies and good deals list

Updated with sale items that will continue through Super Doubles week.
Updated again with new sale items and unadvertised specials.

Harris Teeter's Super Doubles promotion, which begins at 7 a.m. Wednesday, is shaping up to be a pretty big event with numerous freebies and good deals.

Even better, several grocery items are actually moneymakers when you use a paper coupon along with a Harris Teeter digital coupon, which, by the way, is permitted by Harris Teeter's official coupon policy. You've gotta love it when you get paid to shop!

I've double-checked the prices using Express Lane, Harris Teeter's online shopping tool, and walking the aisles of my local Harris Teeter in Apex to verify shelf tag information.

I've also added deals from the new sales circular. (My thanks to HotCouponWorld.com for posting the ad early.) And finally, I've also included numerous unadvertised deals.

Keep in mind my list is specifically tailored to Triangle shoppers, using Triangle store prices and coupons readily available here, either through newspaper inserts, magazines or Internet printing. No sense getting frustrated looking for a deal we can't get here!

(For Super Double coupon shopping tips and Harris Teeter's rules during Super Doubles, scroll to the bottom of this post.)

Now on to the deals:
