Sunday's sales: A whole new set of deals for tax holiday

If you didn't like the looks of the deals on the first two days of the tax-free weekend, you've got one last chance.

If you've got the stamina to keep shopping, today's sales circulars and coupon inserts offer up new deal potential.

As I mentioned in my post on the new school supplies deals, there are some rare coupons in today's inserts, giving us extra savings on items such as Avery and Five Star binders, Scotch brand products and Five Star notebooks.

Here are a few other deals in Sunday's paper that might entice you into the stores today for tax-free savings:

School supply deals: Don't forget your coupons

These are the best school supplies deals for the entire week. But if you want to get them tax-free, you need to hit the stores today for the last day of the tax holiday.

Before you head out the door, don't forget to clip the coupons for school supplies in today's Sunday inserts. (These are pretty rare coupons that typically are released just once a year. My favorites are the coupons on Avery binders and Five Star products.) While you're doing your pre-shopping prep work, print those Post-it Note coupons I mentioned in the Friday's freebies post. Keep reading to see how you can score another freebie with those coupons at Target this week.

Here's a store-by-store breakdown:

Sunday deals are up (July 31-Aug. 6)

It's a fantastic week for deals at the drugstores with plenty of freebies and bargain-priced items. There's free chocolate, a free razor and 49-cent specialty toothpaste at CVS. At Rite Aid, there's bargain-priced Pampers, free toothbrushes and cheap Dawn dish liquid. Walgreens has got seven freebies, including free Crayola Washable Markers and Goody hair clips. I'd go early because they will sell out.

At Kroger, rotisserie chickens are just $3.99 each, a fantasic deal. And that doesn't even count the money you'll save by keeping your oven turned off in this heat.

Kroger also has the best price I could find on milk: $1.66 for a half-gallon or $3.32 a gallon.

Read on for all the deals and give me a shout if you found a good deal I missed.

Sunday deals are up (July 24-30)

Each of the drugstores has some excellent deals this week, including free pens and toothbrushes, along with cheap toothpaste, feminine products and hand soap. But Walgreens probably has the best deals among the drugstores this week, with free Irish Spring deodorant, free hair Scuncis and free tampons, along with bargain M&Ms and 39-cent Sharpie markers.

At Kroger this week, there's a terrific deal on General Mills cereal that gives you $6 off your order instantly when you buy four boxes. Match that with coupons and you get yourself some Cheerios for as low as 49 cents a box.

Kroger also has a 10 for $10 sale that includes store-brand pasta sauce, Crest, frozen veggies and many other items. After coupons, the Softsoap hand soap ends up being just 30 cents. (And remember, you don't have to buy 10 items to get the deal!)

Read on for all the deals. And as always, please post the bargains you find.

Sunday deals are up! (July 17-23)

It's not a blockbuster week for deals this time around, but there are still a few opportunities for free items and a great week to pick up some great bargains on school supplies. Walgreens has 9-cent folders and mini highlighters and 19-cent packs of pencils. Target has free scotch tape.

At Kroger, the Mega Event continues with great prices on Pepsi 2-liters and Steamfresh veggies. It also has Hillshire Farm lunchmeat for 30 cents after coupon, a stock-up price for sure.

Saving you money is my new job

Long before I worked for The News & Observer, I was a regular reader of the Taking Stock blog, counting on Sue Stock for my daily fix of bargains. So, like many, I was saddened to see Sue leave the paper.

In these tough economic times, as families search for ways to save money and make ends meet, her consumer-oriented type of reporting was too important to abandon.

Since she left, I have reported the Wednesday grocery deals and kept the coupon database up-to-date.

Today I launch my own blog for The N&O called the Centsible Saver.

Welcome to the Centsible Saver, the Triangle's source for saving money

Welcome to the Centsible Saver, the Triangle's go-to source for deals, freebies and tips on living a frugal lifestyle.

Starting Sunday morning, you'll find all the best features of the Taking Stock blog here on Centsible Saver:
