Wednesday grocery deals, Jan. 30-Feb. 5

With the Super Bowl coming up this Sunday, it's a great week to stock up on fan-favorite foods like chips, peanuts, popcorn, Chex Mix (free!) and frozen pizza.

And if you have chili or tacos on your Super Bowl menu, you're in luck because you'll also find nice deals on ground beef, taco seasonings, salsa and hot sauce.

But my favorite deal of the week is the 6-pack of Dove Men+Care soap at Harris Teeter. It's on sale for $3.99 this week and there's a coupon for $4/1, making it free. Even better, you may have received a Harris Teeter digital coupon for an additional $3.75 off one package, making it a huge moneymaker.

Kroger deals, Jan. 27-Feb. 2

Kroger's "Buy 10, Save $5 instantly" promotion continues this week so many of last week's deals continue.

That's a good thing because there are so many good deals to be snagged, including free Ro-Tel tomatoes, free milk with cereal purchase, 99-cent split chicken breasts, 50-cent avocados and nice deals on Red Baron pizzas and Smart Ones frozen entrees.

Four coupon inserts in Sunday's N&O

Look for four coupon inserts -- one Smart Source, two Red Plum and the February P&G BrandSaver -- in this Sunday's home-delivered Final Edition of The News & Observer.

The new infusion of coupons could not come at a better time -- with Lowes Foods offering a Super Double coupon promotion that includes $2 coupons.

There will be a combined total of more than 240 coupons with a face value of more than $280, along with a rebate or two.

As always, I'll have the coupon database updated and the very best of the drugstore and Kroger deals posted early Sunday morning. That way, you'll have the most complete and up-to-date coupon information for the Triangle at your finger tips

.

This Sunday, I'll also have a separate post matching up the new coupons with Lowes Foods' sales so you can maximize your savings during the last half of its Super Doubles promo.

Please note: Single-copy and State Edition papers may not contain all coupon inserts.

Wednesday grocery deals, Jan. 23-29

This week's big news in the grocery world is the Super Double coupon promotion at Lowes Foods. Not only did it come as a surprise, but Lowes Foods has also upped the ante, allowing $2 coupons to double.

Even so, Harris Teeter has several stellar deals, including stock-up prices on split chicken breasts, Chex Mix (free!), canned goods, Kozy Shack pudding and Mt. Olive pickles, among other deals.

At Food Lion, pair a coupon with a nice sale to bring home free Smithfield ham. Plus, there are nice deals on carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, Russet potatoes and Gala apples.

And at Aldi, take advantage of several produce deals, including cantaloupe for just $1.29 each.

Lowes Foods Super Doubles confirmed!

Super Doubles at Lowes Foods is a go for this week, starting Wednesday.

The grocery chain has confirmed the promotion on its Facebook page.

Even better, Lowes Foods will -- for the first time -- double coupons with a face value of $2 or less.

That means a $2 coupon will double to $4 off.

The move to include $2 coupons follows a similar decision made by rival Harris Teeter several months ago.

I'm already working on a list of freebies and good deals for you. I'll post it just as soon as possible.

Lowes Foods Super Doubles coupon policy:

1. You may double up to 20 manufacturer coupons with a face value of $2 or less per day. The doubled value may not exceed the retail cost of the item.

2. You may use no more than three identical coupons per order.

3. You must pay sales tax on full retail price.

4. Competitor coupons and store coupons will NOT be doubled.

5. Coupons that state "do not double" will not be doubled.

6. No rainchecks will be given on out-of-stock items.

Super Doubles rumored at Lowes Foods

Rumor has it that Lowes Foods will host a Super Double coupon event, starting this Wednesday, Jan. 23.

I'll let you know if and when the event is confirmed.

But in the meantime, you might want to start clipping and organizing those coupons.

Database updated with Sunday's new coupons

The News & Observer's  coupon database has been updated with all of Sunday's new coupons.

This week's home-delivered Final Edition of The News & Observer contains one insert -- a Smart Source with 78 coupons valued at more than $75.

That's before you double the first coupon, of course, which we have the opportunity to do every day of the week at Kroger, Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods.

Not familiar with the coupon database? You can access it on the right-hand side of the blog. There's a button at the bottom right to view it as a full-size page.

Or, you can download it as an Excel spreadsheet by clicking on the attachment at the bottom of this post.

It's a handy tool, giving you the most timely and detailed list of coupons in the Triangle.

Food Lion shares coupons with shoppers on Facebook

Food Lion is offering shoppers a new way to save at the supermarket -- through Facebook.

Earlier this week, the Salisbury, N.C.-based grocer announced the launch of a new coupon app on its Facebook page that allows shoppers to access coupons.

Updated weekly, most of the coupons are manufacturer offers but some are store coupons for Food Lion brands, such as the My Essentials line of products.

Much like sharing a story or photo on Facebook, shoppers using the coupon app are invited to "share" their favorite coupons with Facebook friends by posting them on their Facebook timelines.
