So how did you do at Harris Teeter's triple-coupon event?

Grocery deals, Sept. 11-17

The big news in the grocery world this week is Harris Teeter's Triples coupon event. Not only is this a rare promotion but with Kroger's impending takeover of Harris Teeter many folks are worried this will be the last triples event we will see.

But there are still some worthwhile deals at Lowes Foods, Food Lion and Aldi. Among the highlights:

At Lowes Foods, Sanderson Farms split chicken breasts are 99 cents per pound -- a stock-up price. Also look for nice deals on Barilla pasta, Yoplait Greek yogurt, Campbell's Go Soup, Campbell's Microwave Soups and Kleenex tissue, Betty Crocker cake mixes and Pepsi brand 2 liters. Plus, there are several opportunities to earn bonus gas rewards.

At Food Lion, look for nice deals on Tuttorosso Tomatoes, Mariani Dried Cranberries, Chi-Chi's tortillas, Reser's deli salads and Red Baron pizzas. Onions, potatoes, carrots and London Broil are good deals. And the Super Sale continues with some nice deals on store-brand products.

And Aldi has its usual good deals on produce, including baby carrots for 69 cents per pound, grape tomatoes for 79 cents per pint and a five-pound bag of baking potatoes for just $1.69.

Confirmed: Harris Teeter Triples event to start Wednesday, Sept. 11

It's confirmed. Harris Teeter will be offering a triple-coupon event, starting Wednesday, Sept. 11.

I'll have a list of freebies and good deals later today.

Drugstore deals, Sept. 8-14

Triangle drugstores are offering several good deals this week. Among the highlights:

At CVS, be sure to pick up free Colgate toothpaste, along with nice deals on Lindt chocolate, Bengay, Pepsi and 7UP brand 2 liters and Huggies diapers.

At Rite Aid, look for bargains on Ghirardelli chocolate, Pepsi 12-packs, store-brand bottled water and store-juice. There are also discounted giftcard deals and a coupon for a $25 reward when you transfer a prescription.

At Walgreens, milk is $2.99 per gallon, 7UP brand 2 liters are 88 cents, and Xtra laundry detergent is $1.49 for a 30-load jug, plus there are several deals on toilet paper. But the best Walgreens deal, by far, is the 99-cent Planters Nutrition Energy Mix that is free after Register Rewards.

Kroger deals, Sept. 8-14

Kroger is offering another round of 99-cent deals on produce this week, along with the second week of a Buy 5, Save $5 promotion that will get you bargain prices on Turkey Hill ice cream, Pepsi, Oscar Mayer bologna and wieners and many other items.

Also, don't forget about the bonus fuel rewards program. Through Sept. 14 you'll earn quadruple points on gift card purchases. There's also a Friday freebie to put on your calendar!

This Sunday's home-delivered Final Edition of The News & Observer contains three inserts -- two SmartSource and a Red Plum.

There will be a total of 142 coupons with a face value of $177 and a try-me-free rebate. There's also a coupon in Parade magazine.

Grocery deals, Sept. 4-10

Here are this week's top grocery deals at Triangle supermarkets:

At Harris Teeter, stock up on eggs for 99 cents per dozen and milk for just $2.99 per gallon. You can also score free Old El Paso taco shells, free Gillette shave gel, Old El Paso seasonings for a nickel, Yoplait Go-Gurt for 27 cents, cans of Progresso soup for 32 cents, French's mustard for 50 cents and nice deals on grapes, pears, organic carrots, ground beef and Starbucks coffee.

At Lowes Foods, there are good coupon deals on Old El Paso seasonings (15 cents), Hamburger Helper (25 cents), Betty Crocker cake mixes (40 cents), French's Mustard (50 cents), Green Giant frozen vegetables (60 cents), Progresso soups (70 cents) and Cascadian Farm organic cereal ($1), plus lots of opportunities to earn bonus gas rewards. There's also a stock-up deal on Sanderson Farms chicken breasts for $1.98 per pound.

At Food Lion, pick up some terrific deals on store-brand products with a week-long "Super Sale" promotion. Among the bargains: Canned goods for 25 cents each; bread for 75 cents per loaf; bacon for $2.75 per package and sour cream for 62 cents per carton. There are also nice prices on gala apples, Russet potatoes and boneless chicken breasts.

At Aldi, be sure to check out the produce prices, including mangoes for 49 cents, avocados for 69 cents, red grapes, peaches, plums and nectarines for 99 cents per pound, and cantaloupe for just $1.49 each.
