Harris Teeter Super Doubles confirmed for this week

Harris Teeter is confirming that it will indeed host a Super Double coupon promotion, starting Wednesday, Feb. 15.

Harris Teeter's corporate Twitter account tweeted the news about an hour ago:

Need a little pick me up? SUPER DOUBLE COUPONS are BACK! From Feb. 15-21, we will double your coupons up to $1.98.

If you participated in Lowes Foods Super Doubles promo, which continues through Tuesday, you may be wondering if you'll have any coupons left for Round 2 of super couponing.

While it's inevitable to have some overlap, I'm confident the Harris Teeter promo will yield some new freebies and deals. So stay tuned.

I'll be scoping out my Harris Teeter for all the continuing sales so please check back later for the start of a good deals list.

New Sunday coupons = new deals at Lowes Foods Super Doubles

Today's two new coupon inserts equal a whole new set of potential deals at Lowes Foods inaugural Super Double coupon promotion.

I did a quick check of the coupons and matched them up with prices on Lowes Foods to Go, the chain's online shopping site.

Here are the very best deals I spotted. Please chime in with any bargains you find!

Sunday deals are up! (Feb. 12-18)

This week's drugstore deals include FREE Colgate toothpaste, a FREE CFL light bulb and FREE Lypsl cold-sore medicine, along with some incredibly cheap deals on Nivea products, Speed Stick deodorant, Hall's and Luden's cough drops, M&M's candies, 7UP and Progresso soup.

And at Kroger this week, you can score FREE Colgate toothpaste, along with 20-cent toothbrushes and 25-cent Starkist tuna. There's also a new promo that will give you $3 off your order instantly plus a $2 off-your-next-order coupon. You must buy 10 participating products to get the discount and coupon.

Read on for all the very best deals this week at CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens and Kroger. Please post any good deals you discover as you shop this week. That way, we can all save more!

Two coupon inserts in Sunday's N&O

Look for two coupon inserts -- one Smart Source and one Red Plum -- in this Sunday's home-delivered Final Edition of The News & Observer.

Also, be on the look out for two manufacturer coupons in this Sunday's WalMart circular.

All together, there will be a grand total of 100 coupons with a face value of about $132 -- and that's before every-day double coupons, which we're fortunate to have at Kroger, Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods. And of course, that's also before Super Double coupons at Lowes Foods this week and possibly at Harris Teeter next week.

As always, I'll have the coupon database updated and the best Sunday deals posted early Sunday morning, about the same time your paper hits the driveway.

Please note: Single-copy and State Edition papers may not contain all coupon inserts.

Wednesday deals (Feb. 8-14)

The big grocery news this week, of course, is the surprise announcement by Lowes Foods that it would offer its first ever Super Doubles promotion. Click here to read and print my good deals list. There are lots of freebies and other good deals under $1.

Keep reading this post for the very best deals at Harris Teeter, Food Lion and Aldi, along with other Lowes Foods bargains that don't require Super Double coupons.

This week, I especially like the $2.97 per gallon milk at Harris Teeter and the $10 per dozen roses and $1.39 per pound strawberries, both at Aldi.

I've also attached Sunday's Kroger deals to the bottom of the list to make comparison shopping easier for you.

Happy bargain hunting, and please post if you find a good deal while you're out and about so we can all save more.

J.C.Penney dropping coupons, sales in favor of lower prices

Starting this week, you can say goodbye to coupons and promotional blitzes at J.C.Penney.

As of Wednesday, Feb. 1, the department store chain has announced it's doing away with its endless barrage of sales and gimmicks in favor of lower prices across the board.

Interestingly, the chain is using social media and text messaging to promote the revamped strategy, even going so far as to poke fun at its former self:

"ON 2.1.12 THE MADNESS ENDS," its Facebook page declares.

The new strategy, which the company is calling "Fair and Square" pricing, comes after an apparently lackluster holiday season.

What does all this mean for you, the consumer, the next time you wander into a J.C. Penney during a shopping trip to the mall?

Starting Wednesday, shoppers will see:
