Triple coupons at Harris Teeter appear likely

It's looking more and more likely that Harris Teeter will offer a triple-coupon event starting Wednesday, March 21.

The national coupon forums are abuzz with rumors and unofficial confirmations from store employees.

However, I will caution you that no one has yet to have laid eyes on the circular.

Double coupons this week at Kmart

Kmart stores are doubling coupons this week but the fine print is considerable.

The promotion limits shoppers to five double coupons per day when you purchase at least $25 in grocery, beauty and health merchandise.

So you can't just run in and double a few coupons. Nor can you buy your kids a pair of shoes, for instance, and then take advantage of the doubles promotion.

Here are the rest of the rules:

Do a good deed, get some great coupons

Here's an opportunity to do a good deed and get a good deal at the same time.

Through Tuesday, March 13, donate $1 to Easter Seals while shopping at Food Lion and you will receive a booklet with $9.50 worth of store and manufacturer coupons inside.

The coupons, all of them with a March 27 expiration date, include:

Two coupon inserts coming in Sunday's N&O

You'll find two coupon inserts in this Sunday's home-delivered Final Edition of The News & Observer.

Look for one Red Plum and one Smart Source insert for a total of 113 coupons with a face value of about $122. That's before every-day double coupons at Kroger, Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods. And, of course, don't forget we have a special double coupon promo ongoing at Food Lion.

Wednesday deals (March 7-13)

This week's supermarket headlines definitely belong to Food Lion, which is offering its first-ever double-coupon event in the Triangle. Click here to find out about those deals.
But at Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods, where double coupons are the norm, there are some equally good bargains to be had -- if not better deals in some cases.
How about a dozen eggs for 24 cents? Or a large jar of peanut butter for 60 cents?
Read on for all the very best deals at Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Food Lion and Aldi. For easier comparison, I've also included Sunday's Kroger deals at the bottom of the post.

Update: Details on Food Lion double coupons and a list of participating stores

As I reported here Friday evening, Food Lion will offer a double coupon promotion in the Triangle and Fayetteville.

The promotion will start Wednesday and will last for two weeks.

Here are the details on how the promotion will work and a list of stores, according to company spokeswoman Christy Phillips-Brown:

The 'coupon penguin' spotted in the Triangle

I caught sight of the "coupon penguin" in two stores while shopping this weekend.

Both the Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods on Williams Street in Apex had penguins in their frozen food aisles and both were well-stocked with coupons.

In case you haven't seen the Penguin display yet, here are the coupons being offered this time around:

Database updated with Sunday's new coupons

The News & Observer's  coupon database has been updated with all of Sunday's new coupons.

This Sunday's home-delivered Final Edition of The News & Observer contains three inserts -- one Smart Source, a Red Plum and a P&G -- for a total of nearly 200 coupons. There's also a sheet of a dozen Target store coupons.

Not familiar with the coupon database? You can access it on the right-hand side of the blog. There's a button at the bottom right to view it as a full-size page.

Or, you can download it as an Excel spreadsheet by clicking on the attachment at the bottom of this post.

It's a handy tool, listing every coupon we receive in the Triangle in the Sunday N&O.

Reading from left to right, you'll see a description of the coupon; the value of the coupon and how many the coupon requires you to purchase; the expiration date; the date the coupon was released; and the name of the insert in which the coupon can be found.

If there are multiple inserts of the same type in a single week, I'll number them in the database, ie. RP1, RP2. Click the "Insert Key" in blue at the top of the database to help you identify each insert in those cases.

Expiring coupons are listed in bold.

Big news: Food Lion to offer Double Coupon event

Starting Wednesday, Food Lion will offer a double-coupon promotion in Triangle and Fayetteville-area stores, a company spokeswoman said Friday.

This is the first time the Salisbury-based grocery chain will offer double coupons in the highly competitive Triangle grocery market, though it has tested the promotion in other areas, according to Food Lion spokeswoman Christy Phillips-Brown.

"Raleigh and Fayetteville are very important markets to us," Phillips-Brown said. "We're pleased to bring this new promotion to our customers."
