Shop around for the best deal on a flu shot

Before rolling up her sleeve for a flu shot this season, a reader asked for my help in shopping around for the best price.

"I don't have health insurance coverage, so must pay out of pocket,"  Cat from Raleigh wrote in a recent email. "I'm sure there are many others in the same boat."

After doing a little checking, I was surprised at the range in prices -- from a high of $31.99 to a low of $15. That price dipped even lower to $10 at Kroger, with a digital coupon available through Saturday only.

Even for those who get their shots free with insurance coverage, it still pays to shop around for the best flu-shot promotions because some of them are far more generous than others.

Here's a sampling of flu shot prices and promotions:

McDonald's booklet loaded with great coupons, freebies

Be on the look out for a McDonald's coupon booklet tucked inside the junk mail delivered to your home.

I spotted mine on Thursday, just as I was getting ready to toss a whole bundle of advertisements into the recycling bin.

The booklet contains $36 in coupons, including two FREEBIES:

Be on the lookout for Lowes Foods' coupon booklet

If you happen to be shopping at Lowes Foods, keep your eyes open for a coupon booklet filled with some pretty terrific coupons.

Nineteen coupons worth an estimated $21 are in the "Fall Savings" booklet, which is free for the taking.

And the best part: All 19 coupons are manufacturer's coupons, which you can use at any store you please.

If you find yourself stopping by Bruegger's to pick up a bagel or coffee, consider purchasing the $3 coupon booklet the chain started selling this week.

Not only is it a pretty good deal with $20 worth of discounts inside, but it's for a good cause. Bruegger's is donating 100 percent of the proceeds to Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign.
