A winner has been drawn from the pool of entries in the Green Giveaway – and it's Claire Watkins of Raleigh! She received a "green kit," which included a YakPak tote bag made from a recycled billboard and two green books. Here are the tips she shared:

If you know a military veteran with an entrepreneurial streak, you might want to point him or her toward this contest from Sears and Maytag.

The companies have partnered to give a Sears Hometown store to one person. Sears Hometown stores are smaller than traditional Sears stores and are geared more toward meeting local needs rather than being a one-stop shop for everything contained in a traditional Sears store.

The person who wins the Operation Stores and Stripes contest will become the owner of one of these stores. The prize includes things like fixtures, 90 days of rent and the money for things like building permits.

But read the fine print before you apply. You must have a net worth of at least $100,000, and $10,000 of that must be in liquid assets. Entrants will be judged not only on their financial health, but also their past retail experience and ability to run a store.

Durham County residents have an incentive to recycle properly starting today with the launch of the Recycle and Win campaign.

What's the prize? A pair of tickets to the Durham Bulls' game against the Indianapolis Indians on Aug. 6, which includes an all-you-can-eat buffet and a souvenir cap.

The campaign, which runs until Aug. 3, is open to Durham County residential recycling customers only. One household per collection day will be eligible to be randomly selected to win the tickets. Winners will be announced weekly on the Durham County Waste and Reduction Web site at http://www.durhamcountync.gov/departments/gnsv/recycle/
