Yow to be the first honored in NCSU's new "Coaches Corner"

N.C. State will unveil a new garden memorial Tuesday honoring its popular and successful  former women's basketball coach Kay Yow.

She'll become the first of several of the school's championship coaches to eventually be honored in "Coaches Corner," a memorial garden on the west side of Reynolds Coliseum.

Among the speakers at the unveiling will be Chancellor Randy Woodson and Yow's sister, Debbie, now NCSU's atheletic director.

The student government raised $85,000 to create the memorial garden. Yow, who died in January 2009 after a long struggle with cancer, was picked by the students to be the first coach honored there.

A stone-paved walkway in the garden leads to a bust of Yow on a pink granite pedastal.

After the unveiling there will be a reception at the Talley Student Center.

The event begins at 3 p.m. It's open to the public, and parking will be avilable at the adjacent coliseum deck. .
