This weekend: First Friday at Videri, food trucks at Ray Price

If you are looking for things to do this weekend, here are a couple ideas:

  • If you are planning on attending tonight's First Friday art walk in downtown Raleigh, consider stopping at The Videri Chocolate Factory at 327 W. Davie St. The chocolate shop recently installed a coffee bar serving Stumptown coffee. Tonight, you can stop in and grab an espresso, cappuccino, latte, drip coffee, mochas made using their chocolate or hot sipping chocolate. (I can't wait to try their hot chocolates.)

  • From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Ray Price Harley-Davidson in Raleigh is hosting a food truck rodeo with eight trucks. They are also offering a new rider bootcamp at the same time if you have ever wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle. The trucks include Philly Cheesesteaks, Hibachi Express, Klausie’s Pizza, Captain Poncho’s Tacos, Sweet Stacey Cakes, Groovy Dogs, Italian Ice and possibly Only Burger truck. The dealership is at 1126 S. Saunders St.

New coupon = free Valentine's Day chocolate

There's a hot coupon available on the Lindt Chocolate USA Facebook page -- $3 off a bag of chocolates.

Snag it before it reaches its limit and disappears.

Then take it to Rite Aid, where Lindt Lindor truffles are on sale this week for $2.99.

That's free chocolate.

Or take it to CVS, where the Lindt Lindor truffles are $3.50 for some chocolate on the cheap.

Either way, it's perfect timing for Valentine's Day.

FREE cookies for Chick-fil-A fans

To mark 40 years of doing business in the Triangle, Chick-fil-A restaurants are celebrating Free Cookie Day this Friday, June 22.

Stop by participating restaurants between 2 and 6 p.m. to get your free chocolate chunk cookie.

The cookies, which are freshly baked at the restaurants, are a new item on the Chick-fil-A menu.

------------

Also, for those of you die-hard Chick-fil-A fans, pencil in July 13 on your freebie calendar. That's the date for Cow Appreciation Day when customers who dress up as cows are treated to free meals.

We have a winner in the Whole Foods holiday goodies giveaway

A big thanks to all who entered my giveaway for a box of Whole Foods holiday goodies.

I loved reading all your comments describing your favorite holiday traditions. And I have to tell you, you've inspired me to adopt a few new traditions this year.

If you haven't taken the time to read the comments, please do. Well worth it.

The winner, chosen at random, is tanya44, who said she loves baking nine different types of Christmas cookies in a single marathon baking session, calling it her "nine innings of cookies." Some years, she wrote, her baking day goes into "extra innings."

Once again, thanks for entering, everybody.

On Tuesday, I'll have a new holiday giveaway you definitely won't want to miss.

Celebrate with chocolate cake

Chocolate cupcakes were a perfect way to celebrate the last day of school and my children's various academic achievements.

But no ordinary cupcakes would do. I had to please two dark chocolate- loving adults and a cake-hating 8-year-old.

In her 2009 cookbook Bakewise, Shirley Corriher promised rich, moist chocolate flavor in her Deep Dark Chocolate Cake. Although it was a little tricky to make, the cake lived up to its billing.

After I had polished off my cupcake, I was looking forward to snagging a few bites off my daughter's plate. Not this time. The cake-hater had left only crumbs.

Fire up the Ice Cream Maker over this long weekend

I fell in love this summer, yes I did, but not in the way you think. I fell for my Cuisinart Automatic Ice Cream Maker.
