Tuesday's high school sports postponed

All of Tuesday's athletic events in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school system were cancelled or postponed due to the threatening weather across the district.

That includes four varsity events for Carrboro, three of which have been rescheduled for Wednesday.

Carrboro's cross-country team and tennis teams both will host conference events at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the Jaguar volleyball team will host Raleigh Charter at 6 p.m.

Tuesday's non-conference soccer match between Jordan and Chapel Hill has been moved to Oct. 20. School officials also opted to switch the site of a match next Monday with Cedar Ridge to Chapel Hill's home field.

A field hockey match between Carrboro and East Chapel Hill has not been rescheduled at this time.

Other events already scheduled for Wednesday — like Carrboro's soccer match at East Chapel Hill High School — are set to go on as planned.

Tri-Nine track moved

The Tri-Nine Conference track and field championships, called off Wednesday in lieu of the tornado watch in the area, has been rescheduled.

Cancellations & Postponements: Not again!

Here's the list of everything that's changed as far as high school athletics goes. This weekend was going to be a huge one, so there's a lot left to make up.

  • Basketball games are on for Friday.
  • The Tri-Nine's "play-in" game has been moved from Saturday to Monday.
  • Monday's first-round Tri-Nine basketball games have been moved to Tuesday.
  • The Tri-Nine's semifinals and finals at Panther Creek High will go on as scheduled (unless we get more snow::knock on wood) on Wednesday and Friday.
  • Cary's state championship match has been moved from Saturday to Sunday at 3 p.m. Again, Cary will wrestle at Winston-Salem Parkland on Sunday at 3 p.m. for the dual-team state championship.
  • Saturday's state indoor track meet has been pushed back a week to Feb. 20.
  • Saturday's Wake County cheerleading championships have been moved Feb. 27 at Broughton High School.

Cancellations & Postponements: snowed-in version

The snowy weather and subsequent icy roads that took over our area on Friday, Jan. 29 caused a major headache for local high school athletic directors as they try to reschedule those games — including big conference match-ups — for a later time.

Wake County schools were canceled on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. When there's no school, there's not athletic events — that's the rule.

Here's a list of events that were canceled but have since been rescheduled. Keep coming back to this blog to find out more rescheduled events as they come in:

  • Apex and Holly Springs boys and girls basketball teams were scheduled to meet on Tuesday. Those games will be played Thursday.
  • In order to play that game on Thursday, Holly Springs had to cancel its out-of-conference games scheduled for that day with Southeast Raleigh
  • Cary and Panther Creek were set to face each other in wrestling on Wednesday. That will no longer be the case, but since P.C. has no game scheduled for its gym on Thursday, the match will likely slide over to Thursday.
  • The basketball teams at Athens Drive may have to cancel an out-of-conference match-up for next week with Wake Forest-Rolesville. The Jags still have four conference games left and cannot play more than three games in a week.
  • Lee County and Middle Creek didn't push their Jan. 29 game up a day, and it was rescheduled for Wednesday. Now it'll have to be made up again.
  • Still waiting for word on other games including: Holly Springs/Athens Drive wrestling, Fuquay-Varina/Panther Creek basketball, Cary/Middle Creek basketball.
  • According to the Holly Springs wrestling Web site, the schools are trying to schedule the Athens/Holly Springs match for Thursday at 4:30 at the HSHS auxillary gym. No junior varsity wrestling. Athens has open house that day, so that could complicate matters.
  • Green Hope will play Fuquay-Varina in basketball on Thursday. The boys game is at Fuquay while the girls is at Green Hope.
  • Apex has cancelled JV boys basketball and JV wrestling with Holly Springs and Middle Creek, respectively. Instead, the varsity wrestling match with Middle Creek will start at 5:45 and the Apex/Holly Springs varsity boys match will start as close to immediately afterwards as possible.
  • Fuquay-Varina/Lee County wrestling will take place on Thursday in the school's auxiliary gym at 7. Fuquay's girls basketball games against GH will go on in the main gym.
  • Cary Christian will play its basketball games (varsity & JV, boys & girls) against Arendell-Parrott Academy on Monday, Feb. 8. The games start at 3:15.
  • Cary/Panther Creek wrestling match will be on Thursday at the same time it was schedule for Wednesday — 7 p.m.
  • Panther Creek/Fuquay-Varina basketball games are rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 10.
  • Cary/Middle Creek basketball games from Tuesday has been moved to Wednesday, Feb. 10
  • Lee/Middle Creek basketball games moved to this Saturday. Varsity boys at 4 p.m., no word on girls.

Cary Christian-Word of God rescheduled

Tonight's football game between Cary Christian and Word of God has been rescheduled for Oct. 9. Game time will be 4 p.m. at Cary Christian.

Cary-Apex softball canceled

It's nice and sunny outside, but the field are still too wet from yesterday's deluge to let Apex and Cary play softball tonight.

And people wonder why we haven't covered a lot of baseball and softball this year. Anyone know next week's forecast?

Cancellations & Postponements: Apex High

We're expecting rain on both Thursday and Friday (again) this week, so some teams have already began shuffling game times and dates. Here they are below:

  • The Apex - Green Hope baseball (JV and Varsity) has been moved up from Friday to Wednesday at 4:30 and 7 p.m. respectively.
  • The previously scheduled games for Wednesday between Apex and Leesville Road in both baseball teams and varsity softball have been canceled. The JV softball team will compete at Leesville at 4:30 that day.
  • Only the varsity women's lacrosse team will go to Charlotte Myers Park on Friday (could also be canceled thanks to rain).

Cancellations & Postponements: Apex girls' lacrosse

The Apex girls' lacrosse teams were scheduled to play this Saturday at East Chapel Hill as a make-up from this past Tuesday's rain-out. That has now been canceled.

In its place will be a game at Wakefield. The action starts at 5:30 with the J.V.
