Millbrook’s decision on goalkeeper Spencer LaCivita to come Monday

Earlier in the week, Millbrook’s soccer team fell to Wake Forest-Rolesville 3-2 in the first round of the Cap Eight tournament. The upset was surprising because the Wildcats (14-3-4) are one of the best teams this season in the Triangle.

One of the reasons Millbrook lost was because of Spencer LaCivita, Millbrook’s starting goalkeeper who has a scholarship to play at Virginia next year, missed the match after being suspended indefinitely.

Last Friday, LaCivita was charged with injury to real property, second-degree trespassing and misdemeanor conspiracy for vandalizing Leesville Road High School before the two schools play each other in football. Three other students were also charged.

As of now, the school has not made a decision on whether LaCivita will return to the team or not before Tuesday’s first-round playoff match at home. Scott McInnes, the school’s athletic director, said the school will make its decision sometime Monday morning.

Leesville Road defeats Heritage 5-1

Heritage soccer coach Scott Sloan doesn’t like to use inexperience as an excuse, but he couldn’t resist mentioning it during his team’s 5-1 loss to Leesville Road on Wednesday night.

After Pride forward Fernando Castellanos outmuscled Heritage defender Matt Sattler in the air to head in the Pride’s final goal, Sloan summed up the Huskies’ plight perfectly.

“That’s just a difference of 15 to 20 pounds,” Sloan said to Sattler. “That’s all that is.”

Broughton scores often in win over Wakefield

RALEIGH – A.J Liames scored. Then C.J. Tikvart and Lukas Janes scored. So did Cenorino Martinez. Even Lassiter Tollison had two goals.

In a match where both boys soccer teams focused on possessing the ball, Broughton capitalized on almost all of its scoring opportunities in a 6-1 victory over Wakefield on Wednesday night.

“They kept mounting pressure, but I thought we moved the ball really well,” Broughton coach Izzy Hernandez said. “We allowed people to get open because our transition from offense to defensive was pretty sharp.”
