A Goodwill hunting they will go

There's a party in the works at second-hand stores across the Triangle this Saturday.

Bargain hunters are scheduled to descend en masse at their local thrift stores and flea markets wearing  "I <3 Thrifting" t-shirts.

All in the name of promoting thrift shopping as hip and eco-friendly.

Blog anonymity goes away today

Starting Monday afternoon, anonymous commenting will be disabled on the N&O blogs. This move will allow us to eliminate spam and make conversations on the blog move more quickly.

Under the old system, an N&O staffer must approve anonymous comments before they appear online. We simply didn't have the resources to have a full-time moderator.

If you would like to continue commenting on our blogs, please register at newsobserver.com. It's a quick and painless process.

If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail Rachel Carter.

A new higher education blog

To our readers: I'd like to draw your attention to the newest News & Observer blog, which debuted this week. It is called Campus Notes and is devoted entirely to higher education. You can find it here.

We will still use Orange Chat to blog information related to UNC, particularly those town/gown issues - like the ongoing airport conversation - that are particularly important to folks in Orange County. The new blog will look more broadly at higher education issues at UNC and all over the place.

Please give each a moment of your attention. Thanks very much.

Meet UNC's Newest Blogger

UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp is on a weeklong tour of the state.

He's also summarizing his experiences on his new blog.

Check it out.

Everyone needs more friends

Friends of Nancy Cooper, a Cary woman who did not return from her Saturday morning run, still want help if the search for her resumes as well as to keep the community posted on their efforts. To volunteer or learn more, check out Nancy Cooper. Anyone with information about Nancy should call Cary Crime Stoppers at 226-2746 or visit the Crime Stoppers' Web site.

College Conservatism

Abby Alger, a 20-year-old rising senior at Duke, has a simple political philosophy. She believes there are plenty of people her age with conservative beliefs. They're Republicans, she says. They just don't know it yet.

That's the idea behind her new blog, which she created in an attempt to create political conversation among college-age people perhaps put off by the traditional Republican talking points.

Behold! A Blog Post from Uncle Crizzle

Hello, kids!

Sorry for the lack of blog posts, but as you've probably noticed, we've gone through a few changes (among other things) in the N&O's blogging system. So, until I figure out how to master all of this, I'm gonna lay low around here.

But, if you must know what I'm thinking at any moment, you can always go to my Twitter page. That's right — I've finally succumbed to Twittering. (As I said in my inaugural post, I officially believe every thought I have is worth sharing.)

You can access my Twitter page at twitter.com/unclecrizzle.

And, for those who've been wondering, I'm not gone — yet.
