Here are a few upcoming wine and beer dinners across the Triangle:

  • Durham’s Vin Rouge is partnering with Wine Authorities to offer a five-course wine dinner at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22. Winemaker Joseph Landron will be the special guest. It costs $75. Carolina and Triangle breweries team up for a beer dinner next Tuesday

Carolina Brewery and Triangle Brewing Company are hosting a beer dinner at Carolina Brewery in Chapel Hill at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17. The four-course dinner will pair beers from both breweries.  The cost is $35 per person. To make a reservation, call 942-1800.

Here is the menu:

Appetizers: Steamed clams steamed with Triangle Brewery's Golden Ale; antipasto  featuring Giacamo's Italian Market salami and soprasetta; Crab-stuffed artichoke hearts; Beer-braised pigs in a blanket made with hot Italian sausage and carmelized onions; Grilled shrimp in a jalapeno boat wrapped with bacon and drenched in Copperline Amber Ale BBQ sauce; Stuffed mushroom caps; Beer selections include Sky Blue Golden Ale, Firecracker Pale Ale and Triangle Brewing Company's Golden Ale.

Second Course: Nicoise Salad with local mixed greens and arugula served with boiled egg, Roma tomato, boiled red potato, green beans, Kalamata olives, capers and red onions tossed with a Nicoise dressing, served with a pan seared medallion of Outer Banks herb-encrusted tuna (vegetarian substitution with grilled herb and garlic rubbed zucchini planks); paired with Triangle Brewing Company's White Ale

N.C. beer dinner at North Raleigh's Zest Cafe

North Raleigh's Zest Cafe is hosting a four-course North Carolina beer dinner at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3. The cost is $45 per person.

Here is the menu:

  • 3 shrimp sliders: ceviche-style with avocado remoulade and pico de gayo paired with Big Boss Angry Angel; breaded and baked with tartar sauce and red cabbage slaw paired with Highland Brewery Gaelic ale; and blackened with citrus aioli and peach salsa paired with Mother Earth's dark cloud.
  • Eastern N.C. pulled smoked chicken with charred yellow corn cake, slaw and pickled veggies paired with French Broad's 13 Rebels ESB.
  • Pan-seared rainbow trout with pumpkin dumplings, roasted cauliflower and sweet potato puree with Chapel Hill Creamery's Hickory Grove Cheese paired with Lone Rider's Peacemaker Pale Ale. 
  • Baked apple ice cream rolled in caramel-coated peanuts paired with Cottonwood Pumpkin Ale.

Food event roundup: wine & beer dinners and more

I'm back after the three-day holiday weekend and I've got a bunch of events to mention:

  • Elaine's on Franklin in Chapel Hill is offering a special Peregrine Farm dinner menu Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The cost is $45 for five pepper-inspired courses including chili relleno with local goat cheese, black beans, cotija, cilantro and salsa verde and for dessert, lemon-verbena and jalapeno sorbet. For reservations, call 960-2770.
  • Sherri Brooks Vinton, author of "Put 'Em Up!," will be at Flyleaf Books in Chapel HIll tonight at 7 p.m. and teaching a class at A Southern Season at 6 p.m. Wednesday. If you wanted to learn more about canning and preserving, this is your opportunity. If you want to sign up for the class, call 929-7133. The class costs $35.
  • Herons at the Umstead Hotel in Cary reopens today after an extensive kitchen renovation. They will start serving lunch and breakfast today, and dinner Thursday.
  • Dos Perros hosts the occasional movie night in its private room. At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, they are showing "Like Water for Chocolate," and chef Charlie Deal will be serving up five courses.The meal costs $30. Call 956-2750 for a reservation.

Reminder: Dos Perros beer dinners

Seats will likely go fast so here's a reminder: Durham's Dos Perros has two upcoming beer dinners: 

7 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, Brewery Ommegang vegetarian beer dinner. The menu includes cherry tomato, celery and pumpkin seed salad with local goat cheese paired with Witte; grilled nopales (that's cactus) and onion with roasted tomato, garlic and oregano paired with Rare Vos Amber Ale; summer squash and spice timbale with tomatillos, peach and habanero paired with Hennepin Saison Ale; and local artisanal chocolates paired with Three Phillosophers Quadruple Ale with Cherries. Cost: $45 per person.

Then as part of a "beer geek" dinner series, they will offer a dinner/beer tasting at 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 16 featuring single hop IPAs. It's not a course-by-course pairing but "simple fare" that complements the half-dozen or more beers for tasting. Some of the beers include: Simcoe, Chinook, East Kent Goldings and Cascade. Cost: $27 per person.

J.Betski's chef to cook at Angus Barn

J. Betski's executive chef Todd Whitney will be a guest chef for a five-course dinner at the Angus Barn's wine cellar. The dinner is 6 p.m. June 5. It costs $125 per person.

The menu includes: 

  • Mini Reuben & Chicken Liver Mousse
  • Chilled Tomato & Juniper Soup
  • Sausage assortment of Veal & Pork Sausage, Bratwurst and Duck & Chevry Sausage
  • Smoked Trout & Potato Pierogi
