Deal alert on milk and organic cereal

Coupon deals on organic foods are a little harder to come by so here's a big heads up on a nice deal at Lowes Foods available through Tuesday, May 29.

Wednesday deals (May 23-29)

Memorial Day weekend is coming up and the supermarkets have some really nice bargains on all the fixings for backyard picnics. There are deals on ground beef, chicken, produce, paper goods, soda and ice cream.

At Harris Teeter, I especially like the Steamfresh veggies for 19 cents, split chicken breasts for 99 cents per pound and the Breyer's ice cream for $1.
At Lowes Foods, there's free Kraft barbecue sauce and Country Time lemonade or Kool-Aid mix, 20-cent Milky Way candy bars and Sun Drop soda for 25 cents -- all with a little coupon magic.
At Food Lion, be sure to take note of the 20-cent ears of sweet corn and green peppers for 69 cents each.
And finally, Aldi has lots of produce deals, including cantaloupe for just 99 cents each.

For easier price comparisons, I've added the Kroger deals from Sunday to the bottom of the list along with a few new Kroger deals from a new 4-day sale that begins Friday and runs through Monday. Most noteworthy: ground beef for $1.79 per pound and cherries for $3.99 per pound.

Keep reading for all the deals and coupon match-ups. And feel free to add the deals you spot as you're shopping this week.

Deal alert: More cheap milk this week

Need milk?

You're in luck.

Kroger has milk on sale through Saturday for $2.88 per gallon -- the latest in a string of milk deals in the Triangle.

It's not quite as good as the milk deal at Aldi, where a gallon is just $2.69 through Tuesday.

But anytime you can score a gallon for under $3, you've gotten a good deal.

UPDATED: Food Lion Double Coupon good deals list

Food Lion kicks off a two-week-long double-coupon event at 7 a.m. Wednesday, March 7 -- the very first time the chain has offered to double the value of coupons in the Triangle.

To give you a head start on your savings, I've compiled a list of good deals based on regular prices. And I've added a few more with confirmed new sale prices, thanks to the good folks over at AFullCup.com where the ad is posted.

I walked the aisles of the Food Lion on Williams Street in Apex, matching those prices to current manufacturer coupons we've received here in the Triangle, along with readily available printable coupons to come up with the list.

In some instances, I've noted potential deals on items that are currently on sale. Unfortunately, Food Lion's shelf tags don't indicate if a sale is continuing so some of the deals won't be certain until Wednesday morning.

I'll add more deals as I spot them. And please feel free to add any deals that you've discovered so we can all save even more.

I've included a list of Food Lion's double coupon guidelines at the very bottom of the post.

One last thing: Remember, this is Food Lion's first experience with doubling coupons in our area so be patient with your cashiers and managers.

Now on to the deals:

Deal alert: Cheap milk and bread this week

Coupons and deals on snack foods or cleaning products are great, but there's nothing better than saving on staples like milk and bread.

This week, Triangle shoppers have got the chance to save big on both.

Bargain-priced haircuts -- no coupon required

Through March 2, Great Clips hair salons are offering a deal on haircuts.

At participating salons throughout the Triangle, all haircuts are $5.99 -- no coupon clipping required.

Click here to find a nearby Great Clips location. Be sure to call ahead to verify that your salon is participating.

Wednesday deals (Feb. 1-7)

Soda, frozen pizzas, ground beef, hot sauces, chips, salsa, popcorn and nuts are all on sale at the grocery stores this week in advance of Super Bowl Sunday. Take advantage of the very best deals and skip the rest.
Food Lion has got ground chuck for just $1.99 per pound and spiral ham for $1.29 per pound. It's also the final week of its money-back promotion on its store-brand products.
Lowes Foods and Harris Teeter both have DiGiorno pizzas for $4 each after coupon. You can also pick up FREE Colgate toothpaste at Lowes Foods and Speed Stick deodorant for 50 cents, along with Heluva Good dip for 69 cents.
At Harris Teeter, Frank's hot sauces are 16 cents and Kettle Brand chips are just 84 cents after coupon.
And at Aldi, as usual, there are some terrific produce deals, including avocados for just 49 cents each and grape tomatoes for 69 cents a pint.

Read on for all the best deals I spotted at Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Food Lion and Aldi. I've also included the top deals at Kroger from Sunday for better comparison. Please post any deals you come across while shopping so we can all save even more.

Deal Alert: Milk for $2.79 a gallon this week

Need milk?

Starting today and continuing through Saturday, Feb. 4, milk is $2.79 a gallon at Walgreens.

These days, any time you can find milk for under $3 a gallon, you've scored a good deal so $2.79 is a pretty terrific price and the lowest price in Triangle stores right now...at least that I know of.

If anyone out there knows of a better price, please share!!

There's no coupon required at Walgreens, but you are limited to two gallons.

If your Walgreens happens to be out of milk -- and it's bound to happen at this price -- be sure to get a rain check.
