Tonight: A live recap of 2012 Golden Globe Awards show

The Golden Globes Awards show airs tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Ricky Gervais (left) is hosting for the second year in a row -- and really playing up the "Oh, aren't I naughty?" angle after many felt he went too far last year teasing the Hollywood elite.

He's sure to offend again, though this time the shtick will be more self-conscious and perhaps less funny because we're all expecting it. But then again, I pretty much always think Gervais is funny, so I'm betting I'll be amused.

Oh, yeah -- awards! They are also giving out some awards! Almost forgot about that part. Raleigh's Evan Rachel Wood is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or TV movie for her role in HBO's "Mildred Pierce," so there's that.

Whatever you tune in for, I'll be back here tonight at 8 doing a live recap on the blog. Follow along and comment or if you're unable to watch the show tonight, check back later to find out what you missed.

Recap begins below.

What to Watch on Saturday: Syfy takes you inside 'Area 51'

Must Love Cats (8pm, Animal Planet) - The third episode in this short series examines the origins of the comic strip cat, Garfield. Host John Fulton also looks at the ingredients in cat litter and meets a cat with four ears.

Area 51 (9pm, Syfy) - In this new Syfy movie, the Air Force bows to political pressure and allows a few reporters limited access to the secretive base, but things turn violent when a captive alien sees the visit as an opportunity to escape. Stars Jason London and Bruce Boxleitner.

Bruce Bruce: Losin' It (9pm, Showtime) - The outrageous comic Bruce Bruce brings his latest standup comedy special to Showtime, riffing on family, dating younger women, and church. Filmed in Boston at the historic Wilbur Theatre.

48 Hours Mystery: Live to Tell - Hunting Humans (10pm, CBS) - The North Carolina serial killer who targeted random women along the east coast is the subject of tonight's show. Hear the story of the 15-year-old Massachusetts girl whose family stopped his killing spree.

Film Independent Spirit Awards (10pm, IFC) - The 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards, a celebration honoring films by filmmakers who embody independence and originality, is hosted by Joel McHale. We have more on the Awards show and a live-streaming arrival pre-show.

Oscar app competition proves it's still an Apple world

If you're looking for a really great app to enhance your Oscar viewing experience this weekend, you better be an Apple user.

Sure, there are tons of movie apps out there -- most will have extra content for the Oscars, and many will be available for users on a variety of platforms.

But the best Oscar app we've seen is built exclusively for Apple users (iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch). That would be the Oscar Backstage Pass from ABC Digital. That one blows everything else out of the water.

CMA Awards Show photo galleries

Did you catch last night's CMA Awards on ABC? There was a tribute to Loretta Lynn, Gwyneth Paltrow performed with Vince Gill, Blake Shelton (pictured) won Male Vocalist of the Year, and the show's co-host Brad Paisley won Entertainer of the Year.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Loretta Lynn tribute on CMA Awards

CMA Awards (8pm, ABC) - The 44th Annual CMA awards show, hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, features a tribute to Loretta Lynn performed by Miranda Lambert and Sheryl Crow. And get this -- Gwenyth Paltrow makes her country music singing debut. No kidding. Also, Jason Aldean duets with Kelly Clarkson, and there are other performances by Dierks Bentley, Alan Jackson, Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Reba, George Strait, Sugarland, and Taylor Swift.

Circus (9pm, UNC-TV) - The latest installment finds the Big Apple Circus troupe in Virginia for the first stop on its tour, but things don't go as planned: a pivotal act is cut, forcing a last-minute reworking of the show; a company regular is diagnosed with cancer; and ticket sales are poor. The 10pm episode finds the circus at New York's Lincoln Center, where sales are brisk but the weather is uncooperative.

Law & Order: SVU (9pm, NBC) - An FBI agent (Marcia Gay Harden) is raped while working undercover, and she asks Benson to have her rape kit tested. She then quickly resumes her work to preserve her cover, and only reluctantly allows detectives to become involved in the case.

Biography: The Bee Gees (9pm, Bio Channel) - A special two-hour "Bio" on the Brothers Gibb, who were propelled to fame by the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack in the 70s. Features interviews with surviving brothers Barry and Robin (Maurice died in 2003), plus home movies and family photographs (including "little Andy," my personal favorite).

Harry Loves Lisa (10pm, TVLand) - In the first series finale, Harry takes command of his future after failing to land a job during pilot season, while Lisa must decide about corrective surgery to reduce the size of her lips.

Psych (10pm, USA) - Season 5 resumes as Despereaux (Cary Elwes) uses Shawn and Gus to escape from prison and pull off one last job. But his plan takes an unexpected turn when he's framed for murdering an attorney, so he has to ask Shawn and Gus for help.

Terriers (10pm, FX) - It's Gretchen's wedding day and Hank stumbles back into the conspiracy threatening Ocean Beach as he fights the urge to drink. Great, great show.

Who looks better in red? Heidi Klum or Amy Adams?

I'm just smitten with both gowns, mostly because I'm a sucker for a red dress. But I have to say Heidi Klum's is just stunning with all the architectural elements, especially at the neckline, and that slit all the way up to there.
