Man wins online Camaro auction with $5.28

A Michigan man bought a brand-new Bumblebee yellow Chevrolet Camaro SS for just $5.28 online.

According to CNN, Jonathan Mason of Michigan won the car at penny auction site Fastpennycars.com.

While it seems to be a deal of a lifetime, it is a little more complicated than it may appear on the surface. There are often additional fees involved so common sense should be applied.

Maybe its just my crusty skepticism or jealousy perhaps, but I have this nagging little feeling that this is a viral marketing ploy. Here is the report via CNN.

Industrial auction company Ritchie Bros. to build new facility in Butner

Industrial auction company Ritchie Bros. will build a new auction site on 107 acres in Butner.

The company said today that it has closed on property in the Falls Lake Commerce Industrial Park.

Construction of the new facility, which will include multiple theaters and kiosks where smaller items can be auctioned off, will begin in June and is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.

The Butner site will replace Ritchie's auction site in Statesville, which has been in operation since 1999

State fines man for rigging foreclosure auctions

State law enforcement authorities have broken up a scheme to fix bids on foreclosed properties in Durham and Mecklenburg county by a Virginia man claiming to be a lawyer, philanthropist, motivational speaker, Princeton University graduate, model, actor on West Wing and Law and Order (among many other shows) and a championship athlete who holds records in track and field.

The N.C. Attorney General's office has added a few more credentials to Bruce Olvin McBarnette's lengthy resume, to wit: strong-arming local pastors and others to pay cash in exchange for getting McBarnette to back off from bidding on foreclosed properties.

The state AG said today that McBarnette, of Sterling, Va., was fined $47,400 for rigging four auction bids and attempting to rig seven other bids between October 2009 and March 2010.

His victims in Durham included a pastor seeking to buy property for her church, another pastor seeking to buy property for neighborhood revitalization, and a man who was buying a foreclosed home for his mother.

Remaining lots in Raleigh's Meadow Wood Park to be auctioned off

The remaining undeveloped lots in Raleigh's Meadow Wood Park condo complex are set to be auctioned off next month.

Sealed bids on the property, which is approved for three more buildings and 126 units, are due by Oct. 13.

Ten months ago 32 completed Meadow Wood Park units were auctioned off in an event held at the Marriott Crabtree Valley.

Meadow Wood Park, located just south of I-440 on Atlantic Avenue, was foreclosed upon after the lender cut off its developer, New Jersey builder Jim Bovino, who was also active in Southport and in his home state under the name Stratland Homes.

By the time the bank stepped in, Bovino had already sold more than 20 Meadow Wood Park condos in the first building.

The lender, Royal Bank America, proceeded to finish the second building, but sales at Meadow Wood Park stopped.

The original plans for Meadow Wood Park called for five condo buildings on the 10-acre site, which Bovino purchased for $2.1 million in 2004.
