Eastern Durham development coming back to the future

The subdivision business is picking up steam in these parts, which means it's back to the future for eastern Durham County.

A 231-home subdivision in eastern Durham County got the Durham Planning Commission's endorsement last week. That advisory body unanimously recommended City Council approval for rezoning a 33.3-acre tract on Andrews Chapel Road, straddling the Wake County line near Brier Creek.

751 South developer asks for city annexation

Southern Durham Development Inc. has filed to have its proposed 751 South subdivision annexed into the City of Durham.

The request was filed Monday, said Robin Bibby, senior analyst with the city's budget and management office. Target date for the annexation is Dec. 31.

The state of things

We've gotten a number of letters recently about issues before the General Assembly that were simply too long to run. One writer would like the state to rethink its expenditures on computers in schools, one offers his take on whether judges should be appointed rather than elected, one takes issue with the idea of Sunday blue laws, one offers a real-life experience that reflects on the Marriage Amendment and another takes on the annexation issues in the state.
