The long-awaited rush-hour express bus between Raleigh and the eastern Wake towns of Wendell and Zebulon will start rolling Monday, Oct. 26.

Using Capital Area Transit buses, the Zebulon/Wendell-Raleigh Express primarily will serve commuters who work in downtown Raleigh and East Raleigh, running weekdays 6-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m.

Morning buses leave a Zebulon park-and-ride lot at 5:55, 6:55 and 7:55 a.m., to arrive an hour later at Moore Square in downtown Raleigh.

Along the way they stop at a Wendell park-and-ride lot, in East Raleigh near WakeMed and Wake County Human Services, and at four state government complex stops. There are three afternoon buses making the reverse trip, leaving Moore Square at 4:10, 5:10 and 6:10 p.m.

The eastern Wake park-and-ride locations are ... [MORE]

H1N1 at the fair

Here are some tips from a random Google search on how to avoid getting sick:

1. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue, when having to cough or sneeze. Make sure the tissue is disposed when done. Don’t have a tissue? Sneeze or cough into your sleeve.

2. Using your backhand or forearm, when needing to rub your eyes or mouth, will help protect from germs.

3. After coughing or sneezing, make sure your hands are sanitized.

4. Do not share things like drinks, eating utensils, Chapstick or any other personal items.

5. Make sure to bring hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes.

6. Hand washing stations will be on site at the fair. Use them.

Practicing these tips will keep you and your family safe from H1N1.

No more hot dogs

The Zebulon Dash-N convenience store, at 1312 N. Arendell Ave., has been known best for its hot dogs. They have been serving hot dogs and other kinds of food for more than 15 years. On May 1, they decided not to sell any more food. The reason for this is because the Wake County Health Department wanted the convenience store to be remodeled. According to Garry Yousef, the owner, it would cost more than $25,000 to remodel the store.

“We just can’t afford it,” Yousef said. “So we decided not to sell any more food.” So next time when you walk into Dash-N, try not to feel so disappointed that you cannot get a hot dog with mustard, ketchup, chilly, onions and coleslaw.

Find jobs and get career advice on Twitter

Some people in the world are still trying figure out ‘What Is Twitter?’ All I know is it can be a helpful resource when it comes to health, news and today’s political topics. With the unemployment rate at 11 percent, I found it interesting that you can follow job openings and useful career tips on Twitter.

It's hook wettin' season

It's late July, early August, and to many people that means one thing crosses their minds during their free time — that monster fish that got away last year at about this time.

I've received zero big-bass pictures this summer and expect a rush of them to be coming in soon. Last year I probably had five or six marvel fish pictures sent my way, just like I do with other outdoor sports seasonally.

Deer and turkey come over the winter months and fish normally all summer, but not this year, not yet. That's why I'm expecting soon, particularly in light of my own success on the pond in late summer, early fall. There's larger, more hungry fish to be taken, and someone's got to want to show those bad boys off.

This blog is an invitation to those that find it — send a picture of your big catch to Eastern Wake News, it will make the sports page first-send, first-print.

A big fan of fishing myself, I truly enjoy seeing what has frequently kept me out on the water for too long on multiple occasions. If someone doesn't send me a picture of their beaut I might have to go hit one of my local ponds over the head and put a picture of my own fish in, and for humility's sake I don't want it to get to that point.
