Former Revs player Schilawski joins RailHawks camp

Former New England Revolution forward Zack Schilawksi arrived in Carolina last week, but is it too late for the Cary native to stick onto the RailHawks' roster?

New Carolina coach Colin Clarke has said that he wanted to add one more player to the team's roster, but a late arrival of Schilawski - who was released a month ago by the Revolution and unable to land on another MLS roster could make signing two players tempting.

Cary High alum Schilawski taken in first round of MLS SuperDraft

Former Wake Forest and Cary High standout Zack Schilawski was selected 9th overall in today's MLS SuperDraft by the New England Revolution.

Schilawski recently completed his star-studded career with the Demon Deacons in the NCAA College Cup final four for the third year in a row. Wake Forest won the NCAA title in 2007 and were semifinalists the past two years.

At Wake, Schilawski scored 40 goals and 100 points in his career which placed him third on the school's all-time lists. He was named to several All-American teams this season and was a member of three regular season ACC champions.

He was a high school All-American in 2005 for then-coach Mike Dunphy and led his team in scoring all four years. Schilawski was also a standout in the classroom, graduating second in his class of 504.

Schilawski strikes again

Even Zack Schilawski can't help but laugh at what he's done at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Last December, Schilawski came back to his hometown and scored the game-winning goal for Wake Forest in the Demon Deacons' 2-1 win over Ohio State in the national championship game.

Thursday night, Schilawski's 56th-minute goal tied the RailHawks U-23s international friendly against England's Burnley FC, a match his PDL team won 2-1.

Coincidentally, Schilawski scored both times in the goal at the south end of the WakeMed Soccer Park field.

"I've been pretty fortunate," Schilawski said as he turned back to look at the goal. "It's kind of a funny it's the same thing. I was in the right spot at the right time. The ball popped out to me and I was lucky enough to finish it."
