Eureka woman wants to be a 'Millionaire'

Shirley Proctor of Eureka, N.C., will be a contestant on "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" this week as part of their special "Double Your Money Week."

During "Double Your Money Week," contestants have the chance to double the money attached to a single randomly selected question in the first round of the game.

Proctor is expected to appear on the Monday and Tuesday episodes.

According to a press release from the show, Proctor works as an actor, singer and temp. She is married to Bobby Gooding and has two step-children. Her husband and her friend Kimberly traveled to New York City with her and sat in the audience as her on-air companions. "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m. on WTVD.

Raleigh woman has a nice payday on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"

After a rocky start, Raleigh freelance copy editor Ashley Mason left "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" with $17,550, not bad for less than 15 minutes work.

With a $35,000 pot, Mason ended up taking the safe route and opting for leaving with half her jackpot. The question that stumped her:

In 1908 in the Superior Motel in Montana, what amenity was added to hotel service for the first time?

The answer was . . .

“Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” is hosted by Meredith Vieira and airs on WTVD at 12:30 p.m.

Chapel Hill attorney's "Millionaire" stint for the birds?

Dean Woodward, a patent attorney from Chapel Hill, came away from his shot on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" today winning just $5,000. Still, $5,000 is $5,000. I wouldn't turn it down!

Woodward actually made it to the $15,000 question on the game show hosted by Meredith Vieira, but got it wrong. Here's the question, from the category 'Bird Brains:' “Also known as corvids, what highly intelligent birds have even been known to use tools? A: Parrots, B: Penguins, C: Owls, D: Crows.”

NC woman walks away from million dollar question

The Concord woman who had a shot at one million dollars on today's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" by correctly answering one question, walked away from the question even though she knew the answer.

Jehan Shamsid-Deen was asked the following: "A rare example of the word that rhymes with 'orange,' the Blorenge is a what? A: River in Ireland, B: Forest in Scotland, C: Mountain in Wales, D: Desert in Australia."

Do you know the answer?

North Carolina woman could win $1 million today on "Millionaire" game show

A North Carolina woman has an excellent shot at winning $1 million today when she competes against one other finalist in the "Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Million Dollar Tournament of Ten."

What to Watch on Wednesday: Top Chef ends, Top Chef begins

Who Wants To Be a Millionaire (8pm, ABC) - How can you not mention Snoop Dogg as the celebrity contestant on a quiz show? He can't do worse than Patricia Heaton did Monday night.

Top Chef: Las Vegas (9pm, Bravo) - In tonight's season 6 opener in Las Vegas, we meet the 17 new contestants. The finale for "Top Chef Masters" follows at 10pm. The winner here must prepare a four course meal -- completely from memory.

Leverage (9pm, TNT) - The crew takes on a corrupt corporation that sells tainted food. Their cover for beating security involves a fake magic show.

Michael and Michael Have Issues (10:30pm, Comedy Central) - Michael Showalter is a guest at Michael Ian Black's home. Hilarity ensues.

What to Watch on Monday: "Jon & Kate" wraps up NC trip

Teen Choice Awards (8pm, Fox) - The Jonas Brothers host and perform at this 11th annual awards show honoring entertainment, sports, and fashion. Miley Cyrus appears, naturally. And Britney Spears receives the Ultimate Choice Award. Tons of celebrities will appear, ranging from Jordin Sparks to Hugh Jackman.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire (8pm, ABC) - Night two. Celebrity contestant is Vanessa Williams, celebrity lifeline is George Stephanopoulos

Jon & Kate Plus 8 (9pm, TLC) - Kate and the kids wrap up their North Carolina vacation and return home to their renovated kitchen.

The Closer (9pm, TNT) - A dead body is shipped to the police station in a large box, and Brenda's visiting niece (played by Sosie Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick's real life daughter with husband Kevin Bacon) stirs up trouble.

Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (10pm, Bravo) - In the season 5 finale, Kathy learns she's going to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That is, if you consider Palm Springs to be the same as Hollywood.

What to Watch on Sunday: Regis, Shark Tank, Joan Rivers Roast

Who Wants to be a Millionaire (8pm, ABC) - Regis Philbin is back with the hit that started the big prime time game show craze in 1999. Tonight kicks off the first in 11 straight nights of prime time "Millionaire" action, as the show celebrates its 10th anniversary with an updated ("improved," says Regis) format. Both celebrities and non-celebrities compete for cash. Katy Perry plays and Sam Donaldson serves as a lifeline.

Joan Rivers Comedy Central Roast (9pm, Comedy) - Kathy Griffin hosts a roast of comedian Joan Rivers and trust me, it's gonna get U-G-L-Y.

Shark Tank (9pm, ABC) - A Cary businessman is one of several entrepreneurs who do their best to convince a panel of billionaires to invest in their idea or their company.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent (9pm, NBC) - Tonight is the season 8 finale (finale!? too soon! too soon!), and it's a Goldblum episode. The plot sounds complicated - somehow the kidnapping and murder of a bank executive leads to something about a terrorist plot. Who cares. It's Goldblum. Also, don't miss a season 8 marathon on USA beginning this morning at 10am and lasting till 6pm.
