What to Watch on Friday: Joe the Plumber meets Bill Maher

1979 NCAA: Michigan State v/ Indiana State (7pm, ESPN2) - The legendary NCAA tournament matchup between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.

Friday Night Lights (9pm, NBC) - Lyla moves out of Tim's house, Matt tells his grandmother that he's leaving her for college, and the Taylors have to decide what to do about J.D. McCoy's violent jerk of a father. May we suggest introducing him to Landry and a tire iron?

Real Time with Bill Maher (10pm, HBO) - Joe the Plumber is a scheduled guest. That ought to be good. If you don't have HBO, you can download the podcast for free this weekend.

What to Watch on Thursday: Chad Lowe on Bones

Bones (8pm, Fox) - The half-eaten body of a doctor is found in a lion's cage
during a charity event, and the doctor just happens to be Cam's (right) former
fiancé. Chad Lowe guest stars.

Samantha Who? (8:30pm, ABC) - Samantha has Baby Brain so she borrows Dena's dog to see if she's nurturing enough to be a mom. This is literally the least that all prospective parents should have to do.

ER (9pm, NBC) - It's the final show. Even if you stopped watching for the past couple of years, it wouldn't kill you to drop in for a minute or two... There's a retrospective at 8pm.

The Carolina Brogue (10pm, UNC-TV) - An interesting and funny examination of the unique dialect of the 'Hoi Toiders' of NC's Outer Banks.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Would you leave 1973?

Coming Home: Military Families Cope with Change (7:30pm, UNC-TV) -  Queen Latifah, John Mayer, and the gang from Sesame Street tell the stories of military families coping with the challenges and impact of all types of combat-related injuries.

Life on Mars (10pm, ABC) - In the series finale for this cancelled-too-soon drama (don't get me started!), Sam gets a chance to leave 1973 and return to the present, but will he take it?

Damages (10pm, FX) - Another finale (hopefully, just season finale and not series finale!). Tonight we find out why Ellen shot Patty, if Purcell takes the fall for his wife's murder, and just in general, what the heck is going on. If we get a season three, I'd be fine with losing Ellen (Rose Byrne).

Also worth noting tonight - Better Off Ted (8:30, ABC), American Idol results show (9pm, Fox), Lost (9pm, ABC), and Life (9pm, NBC).

What to Watch on Tuesday: God of love or mental patient?

The Mentalist (9pm, CBS) - The gang looks for a criminal who uses hypnosis to make other people kill.

Law & Order:SVU (10pm, NBC) - A priest who is also a devil worshipper who also preys on children. Wow.

Cupid (10pm, ABC) - A new show (sort of) starring Bobby Cannavale (left) as a man released from a mental instituion who thinks he's Cupid, god of erotic love and beauty, and that he must match people. From Rob Thomas of "Veronica Mars" fame.

What to Watch on Monday: 'Mos Def'initely watch House

House (8pm, Fox) - After House is in a motorcycle accident in New York, he shares a room with an accident victim with "locked in" syndrome -- mentally, he's fully aware of his surroundings, but unable to move or speak. House gets Lee, played by Mos Def (left), transferred to Princeton hospital so that his team can work with him. The episode is told from Lee's perspective.

Chuck (8pm, NBC) - A new female agent comes between Chuck and Sarah.

How I Met Your Mother (8:30, CBS) - Ted makes a list of things the gang is too old to do, which prompts Barney to try to do everything on the list in a 24-hour period.

Medium (10pm, NBC) - Allison becomes a human lie detector. There's also more drama at Joe's place of work. Is anyone besides me wondering why Joe's boring job is getting so much screen time this season?

What to Watch on Sunday: Homer Simpson is single, ladies!

The Simpsons (8pm, Fox) - Marge and Homer discover they aren't married because Reverend Lovejoy wasn't licensed at the time of their ceremony. When they try to get remarried,  hilarity ensues.

Breaking Bad (10pm, AMC) - Walt (left) is back home, but his wife is keeping him on a short leash after his "isolated episode of transient global amnesia." That's what you get when you're kidnapped by a psychotic drug dealer, escape, and have to lie about where you've been for three days.

Jim Gaffigan: King Baby (10pm, Comedy Central) - This is funny. Gaffigan will tell you exactly why you should eat more bacon and never go camping.

What to Watch on Saturday: Kids Choice Awards

Kids Choice Awards (8pm, Nickelodeon) - Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (left) hosts this awards show spotlighing kids' favorites in film, tv, and music. Jonas Brothers perform.

Nora Roberts Midnight Bayou (9pm, Lifetime) - Adrienne loves these Nora Roberts movies, and this one has a ghost in it, so even I might try to watch record one. Starring Jerry O'Connell and Faye Dunaway.

Peter, Paul, and Mary: Carry It On, A Musical Legacy (9pm, UNC-TV) - A bio of the legendary musical group featured during UNC-TV's fundraising festival.

Penguins of Madagascar: Launchtime, Haunted Habitat (9:30pm, Nickelodeon) - Another show stamped with the Adrienne Seal of Approval. A new cartoon series featuring the popular Central Park Zoo penguins.

What to Watch on Friday: NC family sizzles on Wife Swap

Wife Swap (8pm, ABC) - It's the fried food-eating folks from North Carolina paired up with the health and fitness enthusiasts in Florida. It sounds kinda like ... every other episode of Wife Swap, ever.

Friday Night Lights (9pm, NBC) - Lyla (right) gets accepted to her dream school -- Vanderbilt -- but Daddy gambled away her college fund. And Matt's grandmother's mental health declines further and she has an accident.

Dollhouse (9pm, Fox) - Echo helps out on a college campus during a virus outbreak, but parts of her past life start to break through despite her programming.

What to Watch on Thursday: In the Motherhood

In the Motherhood (8pm ABC) This new sitcom is based on a popular web series and stars Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), and Jessica St. Clair (Worst Week). It's described as "more mainstream" than some of ABC's quirkier comedies, like "Better Off Ted," and has gotten pretty good reviews. And here's something refreshing to look forward to: Hines's character is divorced, St. Clair's husband is black and their two children are mixed race, and Mullally's character actually admits that she's 50 years old. So at least ABC is open to making the show reflect more of the real world.

Samantha Who? (8:30, ABC) - Speaking of quirky ABC comedies, Sam's back. In this episode, Sam and Todd double date with Andrea and her pro-basketball beau Tony Danes, but Todd discovers a secret about Tony that Sam just can't keep to herself.

The Office (9pm, NBC) - Yes, Michael quit last week. No, we don't think that will last long. So how's that gonna play out? All we know is that Idris Elba (aka Stringer Bell) is around for five more episodes...

What to Watch on Wednesday: A death on Life on Mars?

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - It's Motown night.

Better Off Ted (8:30, ABC) - In last week's pilot, Veridian froze one of its employees to test a new cryogenic process. This week, after the experiment has failed, they work on getting him to sign a waiver absolving them of blame. We're all just thankful to have jobs these days, right?

Life (9pm, NBC) - Crews and Seever investigate the murder of an LA Coroner, and all of his co-workers are suspects. Right now I'm trying to decide if it's worse to work for Veridian or the LA Coroner's office.

Life on Mars (10pm, ABC) - Last week's episode was pretty stunning, right? So tonight we get to see if Detective Skelton (that's the young, sweet one) survived being shot by creepy Irish gang leader Jimmy McManus (Peter Greene). It sure didn't look good for him in the previews. Also, Sam (Jason O'Mara, left) becomes the prime suspect in a murder. Only one more episode after this one.
