Wake County school board member Tom Benton announced today that he will seek election to the District 1 seat that he was appointed to fill earlier this year.
In a press release today, Benton pointed to his 30+ years of education experience in the Raleigh City and Wake County school systems. He also pointed to his work since joining the board on adopting a budget, determining the projects for the $810 million school bond issue and hiring Jim Merrill as superintendent.
“I have gained valuable experience since joining the Board and I am determined to make a difference in District 1," Benton said in the press release. " I believe that every parent deserves to have confidence that their child’s education in our public schools will prepare them for the competitive world. We have excellent education, business and civic leaders who are supportive of this shared community goal."
