"I Twitter Because"

The answers are in! In the June 10 edition of the Eastern Wake News, we asked the question “Why do you Twitter?” Here are some of the answers we received:

Donovan Parker, Zebulon: “Just saw it as a social trend and decided to try it for a while. Can't knock it until you try.”

Sade Dunston, Raleigh: “I tweet because it gives me an inviting avenue to express random thoughts and share entertaining things I encounter every day that I just wish everyone could be around to see. I talk a lot and it's like having 24-hour access to millions of people.”

Rachena Shamarr, Raleigh: “I was bored and wanted to see what all the hype was about. Also, I update my status on Facebook a lot and thought it would be a different way of expressing. I have been impressed with some of the people that I have met just because of seeing their personal views and seeing that they are just regular people.”

Shameka Harrington, Knightdale: “I guess the same thing that makes me want to Facebook. It's just curiosity about what's new and staying in touch with people. I like that a lot of celebs Twitter. It's kind of like you know them personally when they update their status about being hungry or something.”

Jay Spaan, Raleigh:
“My stepmother tells me I should. I feel like it’s people knowing more about me than I want them to know.”

Rhonda Lunsford, Zebulon: “I like to see what celebrities are up to. Its interesting because the things that some of them say they wouldn’t say on TV.”

Melody DeJongh, Wendell: “Oh, because I wanted to do it but there is no one on twitter for me to follow.”

Kenley Newsome, Knightdale: “I do it because it’s something that is a trend like MySpace and FaceBook and now Twitter.

Courtney Renee, Wendell: “To see what all the hype is about. Everybody twitters. Once Beyoncé said she was on there I was up there.”

Lynn Hall, Zebulon: “It's a quick, convenient way to update friends who use it. Besides, I heard so much about it and wanted to see what all of the fuss was about.”

Watch your speed

As if last week's kidnapping and bank robbery didn't draw enough police attention in eastern Wake County, why, I say, why are there so many patrol cars guarding the highway lately?

The first thing that comes to mind is the weather is nice and warm, and hey, it's summer time. People are getting out and doing things (both legal and illegal) and trying to get to their destination in record time.

But still a curiosity in my book is the joint effort between local towns' police officers on 64/264 between Wendell Boulevard and Highway 96 (Arendell Ave.).

It's got my attention because lately as you head toward Wendell from the Knightdale side of things there is a Zebulon K-9 unit monitoring the road, and then when you get past Lizard Lick (into the Zebulon jurisdiction) there are Wendell cops doing the same — more or less a role reversal.

I thought that was weird enough, and still don't know if they're looking for someone in particular, drugs, or what, but then I saw the true conundrum — a Durham Five-O in Wendell. WOW. I know. Tell me about it. What could possibly be going on here?

One half of me wants to call the local police departments and put an end to my measureless curiosity, but the other half of me doesn't want to spoil the endless possibilities that stem from such ignorance.

It's almost like the kind of thing that would become the perfect rumor in a small town. Maybe they're searching for aliens. If anyone knows the truth, or thinks they do, I'd love to hear about it.

A Faithful Triangle Share Member

Knightdale eighth-grader Morgan Morse has been taking pictures for two years but uses her camera quite a bit more than the average scrapbooker.

Morse got her start in taking pictures when her mom bought her a 2-megapixel camera. She found the camera worked decently, but decided she needed something above and beyond, so her mom went out and bought her a 10-megapixel camera.

It was then that she heard from a friend if she posted her photos to the triangle.com web site, there would be a chance for them to be published in the Eastern Wake News.

The picture snapping began. Morse went around taking all kinds of pictures and posting them on the web site. Since she began posting, Eastern Wake News has published 25 of her photos in the newspaper.

Now, taking pictures isn't just a hobby to Morse, it's a habit. When she gets home from school she gets the camera out and goes to work. She loves photography and hopes to take classes to fine-tune her skills once she gets to high school in the fall.

Morse encourages Eastern Wake News readers to post their photos to the triangle.com web site “because you will get your picture in the newspaper."
