WENDELL – Garner got a total team effort and won the championship of the Greater Neuse River 4-A conference with an exclamation point.

Siemens Energy to expand in Wendell, add 139 jobs

Siemens Energy plans to expand its Wendell operations and add 139 high-paying jobs over the next four years.

State officials today approved a grant and tax credits worth as much as $2.9 million, which Siemens will receive if it meets hiring goals.

The company also will be required to retain 262 existing jobs. The Wendell facility is involved with developing smart grid technology, and is seeing a surge in demand.

The new jobs will pay average annual salaries of $88,883. That's higher than the Wake County average of $42,692, Gov. Bev Perdue's office noted in a news release.

WENDELL -- There was a brief moment in the third quarter when it appeared East Wake would pull back into Friday night's homecoming game against Southeast Raleigh, but the moment faded quickly as the Bulldogs cruised to a 35-13 victory.

Wearn, Perry take top spots in N.C. Women's Amateur

Laura Wearn of Charlotte led wire-to-wire in winning her first major championship title by four strokes over defending champion Katherine Perry of Cary at the 61st N.C. Women's Amateur Championship in Gastonia.

Wearn's final round 74 was the highest round she shot throughout the N.C. Women's Golf Association www.ncwga.com event, which was played Tuesday through Thursday at the 6,024-yard, par-36-36--72 Gaston Country Club layout.

Lori Beth Adams of Burlington was third, followed by Corrine Carr of Pinehurst in a tie for fourth. Courtney Rouse of Holly Springs was seventh, and Wendell's Ashley Denton shared ninth.
