Morrisville's Edmondson wins N.C. Amateur qualifying tournament

Triangle golfers took three of the top 10 spots in a sectional
qualifying tournament played Friday for next month's North Carolina
Amateur Championship.

Zach Edmondson of Morrisville won the qualifier at River Landing's
River course in Wallace by shooting a 3-under-par 69 for a one-stroke
victory over Fayetteville's Jack Keefe and Hampstead's David Donovan,
who each shot a 70.

Raleigh's Cyrus Stewart shared fourth place with three other golfers at
71, and Keith Waters was in a three-man group tied for eighth place at
par 72.

Area golfers advance to U.S. Open sectional qualifying

Local-level U.S. Open qualifying tournaments completed Tuesday and
Wednesday in Pinehurst and Wallace saw golfers from Raleigh and
Pinehurst claim places in sectional qualifying. Competitors from Chapel
Hill and Wake Forest were left waiting in alternate spots.

Wallace: In Wednesday's local qualifier on River Landing's River
Course in Wallace, Jason Moon of Raleigh tied for second at 6-under-par
66 and Bobby Clampett of Raleigh shared fourth place at 67 to take two
of the five sectionals spots. Ryan Armour of Jupiter, Fla., won the
event with a 65.

Pinehurst: In the local qualifier at Pinewild Country Club's
Magnolia Course in Pinehurst that started Monday but had to be
completed Tuesday because of rain, nine qualifying spots and two
alternate positions were available. Darron Stiles of Pinehurst shot a 6-under-par 66 for a one-stroke victory.
