Not a bad pairing for a first-year PGA Tour pro: former Wake Forest star Webb Simpson will play with NFL MVP Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts this week in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in California, the Wake sports information office reports.

After earning his tour card in Q-school in December, Simpson is 17th on the money list. Manning is an 8-handicapper.

Raycom Sports manages to get 92 of 96 ACC men's basketball games this season on television, and all Raycom Senior Vice President George Johnson hears about are the four that aren't, including Wake Forest's game at N.C. State tonight.

If only basketball were as easy to schedule as football. Then Raycom would have been able to change the schedule to make sure Wake Forest's basketball game at N.C. State was televised. It wasn't.

Former Wake Forest forward Jamie Skeen, who sat out the fall semester for academic reasons and chose to leave Wake, has enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth.

As a transfer, Skeen will be eligible to play next January, or a full year after his last semester at Wake.

WINSTON-SALEM — North Carolina guard Wayne Ellington said last week he couldn’t imagine his team — you know, the deep, speedy, experienced Final Four favorite — falling to 0-2 in the ACC.

Now, it’s a reality.

Fourth-ranked Wake Forest knocked the No. 3 Tar Heels down yet another peg at Joel Coliseum, 92-89, led by 34 points from point guard Jeff Teague.

The Demon Deacons remained one of three undefeated teams in the country. Carolina, which snapped a 15-game road winning streak, hasn’t lost its first two league games since 1996-97; that team began conference play 0-3 before advancing to the Final Four.
