Wake GOP celebrates Tedesco win

The Wake GOP is reveling in tonight's election results.

In a press release, the Wake County Republican Party points to wins by school board candidate John Tedesco and other GOP endorsed candidates. The GOP had made it their mission this year to elect a new board majority that would back neighborhood schools.

"The voters responded to our call for fiscal conservatism, personal responsibility, government accountability and support for families and neighborhoods,” Wake County GOP Chairman Claude E. Pope, Jr, said in the press release.

Take Wake Schools Back's runoff campaign report

Compared to the Wake Schools Community Alliance, campaign finance reports show that Take Wake Schools Back wasn't nearly as big a monetary player.

In its runoff election report, Take Wake Schools Back said it had raised $2,083.25 as of Oct. 19. In contrast, the WSCA had raised $36,919.44.

NAACP demands that District 2 runoff go on

Folks who thought that the diversity policy supporters might try to slip an election win in District 2 may be right after all.

The state NAACP announced today that it's demanding that elections officials go ahead with the runoff even though Cathy Truitt withdrew the request. The same press release also accuses Republicans of using neighborhood schools as a guise for resegregation.

If the runoff goes forward and Truitt gets the most votes, she could be declared the winner or the seat could be declared vacant so that the current school board would fill the spot.

Here's the NAACP press release:

Truitt and Tedesco to do joint appearance today

For those who think that Cathy Truitt is doing a fake withdrawal from the school board race, the Wake County GOP is announcing that she and John Tedesco will do a joint appearance today.

A press release is expected around 11 a.m. But here's the GOP announcementL

Wake GOP praises Truitt for stepping down

The Wake County Republican Party is declaring victory in the District 2 school board race.

In the press release, Wake GOP Chairman Claude Pope Jr. praises Cathy Truitt for stepping down from the runoff election, "thus saving the taxapayers of Wake County thousands of dollars."

Pope is wrong. The ballots have been printed. Early voting has already begun. Voters will still see Truitt's name on the ballot even though she conceded today.

Here's the GOP press release:

Truitt warns about new board as she concedes race

Cathy Truitt fired bullets at the new school board members, the Wake County Republican Party and the Wake Schools Community Alliance as she announced her decision to concede the District 2 race.

Truitt warned that the new board majority will move toward resegregated schools by cutting magnet programs and sending students to "pure neighborhood schools." She said the public needs to speak out now to get the board to back off from making the quick changes she said they're planning.

"I don't think people want the school system to be blown up," Truitt said at her press conference. "If people get involved now, they can have an impact."

Wake GOP urges voters to "finish the job" in runoff election

The Wake County Republican Party is revving up its members "to finish the job" and elect John Tedesco in the District 2 school board runoff race.

In a press release sent Tuesday, Wake GOP Chairman Claude Pope Jr. says they need to "work extra hard to ensure the new school board will have the critical new leadership to bring back neighborhood schools and stop the costly busing policy which keeps critical resources from getting to disadvantaged schools."

The Wake County Democratic Party didn't officially endorse anyone in District 2 because only Republicans and one Libertarian were on the ballot. But some individual Democrats are rallying around Cathy Truitt now.

Wake GOP cheering election results

The Wake County Republican Party is crowing about tonight's school board election results.

It looks like the GOP's decision to target the school board races this year paid off big time.

Here's the press release:

GOP and Debra Goldman campaign mailers

Here are a pair of campaign mailers from the Wake County Republican Party and school board candidate Debra Goldman.

In this final mailer, the GOP urges voters to stop the "roller coaster ride" that the school board has been taking families and taxpayers on.

In this mailer from Goldman, she plugs endorsements form Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison, Cary Town Councilman Don Frantz and Wake County parent Rene Hart.

Donating campaign money along partisan lines

It's clear that a lot of the school board campaign money is being given along party lines.

As noted in today's article, supporters of current board policies are getting a lot of backing from Democrats. Critics of current board policies are getting a lot of money from Republicans.

"I thought that maintaining diversity is very important for the county" said Wake County Commissioner Stan Norwalk on why he gave money to Rita Rakestraw and Lois Nixon.
