Morning anchor leaving WTVD

Weekend morning anchor Rebecca Hall is leaving WTVD.

Hall, who grew up near Atlanta, joined WTVD in December 2006.

The station is advertising an "immediate opening" for her spot.

WTVD General Manager John Idler said Hall is leaving on very good terms and the station is sorry to see her go.

WTVD anchor reports live from Haiti

Larry Stogner will be reporting from Haiti beginning this evening on the WTVD newscast. (UPDATE: Stogner's group initially had trouble landing in Haiti so they had to stop off in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They did arrive in Haiti late Thursday night.)

Stogner traveled to the devastated country with the 82nd Airborne Division, which was dispatched to provide humanitarian aid and disaster relief. Stogner will provide live coverage of aid efforts there and will remain embedded with the 82nd Airborne during his assignment.

WTVD says that as of today, Stogner is the only television news anchor in the Raleigh/Durham/Fayetteville market assigned to report live from Haiti.

Your chance to be on Wheel of Fortune

If you weren't sold on Raleigh Wide Open 4 for the music, food and fun, how about a game show opportunity?

Wheel of Fortune's Wheelmobile is rolling into town Saturday, Oct. 24, offering a chance to be evaluated as a contestant on the show.

Wheel airs on WTVD ABC 11, Monday through Saturday at 7 p.m.

How to watch Obama's Raleigh Town Hall meeting

Local TV news outlets will have live coverage of President Barack Obama's trip to Raleigh on Wednesday, beginning with the landing of Air Force One at RDU.

The Health Care Town Hall event at Broughton High School will begin around 11:45am and will be aired live on News 14 Carolina, WRAL, NBC 17, and UNC-TV. (WTVD will most likely cover this also, but I couldn't find any information about their coverage on their website).

If you miss anything, UNC-NC will rebroadcast the coverage at 8pm and UNC-TV will rebroadcast it at 11pm.

WRAL.com will also carry streaming video on their website. NBC 17 is also streaming the coverage on their website and hosting an online chat at mync.com

WTVD anchor could spend a day with Regis

Today on Live! with Regis and Kelly, WTVD anchor Tisha Powell got a shout-out and some good news.

Powell is a finalist in the show's "From Local to LIVE Co-Host for a Day" search. She anchors the 5 & 5:30 p.m. news on WTVD and the 10 p.m. broadcast on CW22.

How to see soaps disrupted by Michael Jackson services

WRAL, WTVD, and WNCN will all carry live coverage of the Michael Jackson memorial service this afternoon, which means soaps, game shows, and other normal programming will be disrupted.

WRAL says they will join "Guiding Light" in progress, depending on the length of the service, then "The Price is Right" at 3pm, and "The Young and the Restless" at 4pm.

WTVD says they understand that ABC is just skipping soaps today, so viewers shouldn't miss anything. Just to be safe, you might want to check out SoapNet, which shows repeats of ABC soaps. That's channel 63 if you have Time Warner Cable.

Not sure if NBC is skipping soaps as well, but WNCN says it will not show "Days of Our Lives" at an alternate time today.

Who to call with questions about digital conversion

Unhappiness is a staticky TV.

The switch from analog to digital has many TV viewers suffering through some unanticipated pain
this week. Check out these articles on antenna and power supply problems at UNC-TV and also at WTVD (ABC), the two local stations who seem to be having the most trouble right now.

If the information there doesn't help you, try some of the numbers listed below. Or if you have information that might help other readers, leave it in the comment section.

Oh yeah, and double-rescan!

Conversion sticks TV stations with lower power and poor reception

TV sets in the Triangle are still struggling with digital conversion, days after the nationally-mandated switchover on June 12.

UNC-TV is currently working to fix an antenna and power supply problem which will keep some sets Elmo-free throughout the summer. But many local viewers are also having trouble receiving a signal from WTVD, the local ABC affiliate.

ABC's problem appears to be nationwide. Some ABC affiliates, including WTVD, are broadcasting their digital signal on VHF, whereas most other stations broadcast on UHF. The power level assigned by the FCC for these VHF stations is lower, and that is causing the majority of reception problems.

Apex Woman Tries to Be a 'Millionaire'

Apex's Tracy Zothner tries her luck and tests her trivia know-how on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," on shows that air Tuesday and Wednesday. It comes on WTVD at 12:30 p.m.

"I've always enjoyed the show, especially when Regis [Philbin] was on," says Zothner. "I've tried to get on every since then. I've always enjoyed trivia games. I have a lot of useless information in my head."

Campbell games on WTVD

WTVD, the ABC affiliate in the Raleigh, Durham and Fayetteville market, is picking up a couple of Campbell basketball games — the women's team against USC Upstate at noon Saturday and the men's team vs. Stetson next Friday at 7 p.m. The games can be seen on over-the-air digital channel 11.2 and Time Warner Cable channel 213.
