Badgley Mischka and Vera Wang

Two of the biggest wedding/red carpet gown designers, Badgley Mischka and Vera Wang, presented their spring collections on Tuesday.

At Badgley Mischka, the gowns were dreamy and feminine. An ivory strapless dress had a pink embellished bodice, tied with a flowing ribbon at the waist, and a delicate, flowing skirt--very goddess. A figure hugging look featured a strapless sweetheart neckline with an embellished white bodice and pale blue skirt. The designers also included a few shorter cocktail numbers, and some high-waisted jeans, which, compared to all the gorgeous gowns, fell a bit flat.

Front Row Roll Call: Gabrielle Union, Kristin Cavallari, Denise Richards, Joe Zee, Kelly Bensimon, Beth Ostrosky-Stern, La La Vasquez.

Wang went a little edgier with her collection, inspired by Japanese style and the Quentin Tarantino film, "Kill Bill."

Black cocktail dresses and separates featured large folds near the hip area--a look that translates well in fashion editorial, but might be a little tricky for a normal-sized woman to pull off. A tulle layered one-shoulder minidress in bright spring colors with a flowing train was quite lovely, though.

Front Row Roll Call: Serena Williams, Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley, Grace Coddington, Zac Posen, Joe Zee, Stephanie Pratt, Evan Lysacek.

Friday Freebie: Vera Wang Look eau de parfum spray

Today's freebie is a really, really nice one that I found in way back in one of my file cabinet drawers. It's Vera Wang's Look perfume spray, a perfect scent for a strong, confident woman who likes sophisticated fragrances with a lot of layers. Look has notes of lychee, Golden Delicious apple, lily, freesia, jasmine, vanilla, skin musk, oak moss and patchouli.

It would work ok for day wear, but I think it's more of a seductive scent that's ideal for night.

In department stores, this sells for $70. But it's free to the first person who leaves their e-mail address and tells me what city Vera Wang was born in.

Vera Wang more severe than usual

Sitting through a Vera Wang Fashion Week show has always been a sort of torture for me. I always leave reminded that I really don't know squat about the rag business, despite writing about fashion and retail for more than a dozen years.

So I'm pretty sure if I had been invited to her show Thursday (not that I would have. I hear the invite list was cut pretty dramatically) I would have been in for another doozy reminder of what I don't know.

The looks were more severe and hard-edged than usual, with plenty of black and lots of longer hemlines and less of the heavy embellishment we're used to seeing. It was a very unsexy collection that was more straight forward than her typical flights of fancy runway scenes.

Here's one of the more feminine pieces that I think could be a really functional if you dressed it up a bit. (Plus, I'm a big sucker for an off-the-shoulder neckline.)
