Vad Lee feels some stress

Vad Lee said his senior year at Durham Hillside has been perfect.

Now the all-star quarterback wants to make the perfect college decision.

Lee, the Associated Press' North Carolina football player of the year, is committed to Georgia Tech and fully expects to sign with the Yellow Jackets on Feb. 2, the first day he can sign a national letter of intent.

But he said Tuesday that other schools are still recruiting him and that he is looking just a little bit.

The Falcons beat Eastern Alamance 34-7 in a rematch from last year and Miller rambled for 211 yards in 22 carries in the game at Carter-Finley Stadium. That's the 10th best individual rushing effort in the over 20 years of NCHSAA neutral site championships.

D'Brian Hudgins of Williamston has the record with 317 yards in 29 carries and four TDs in the 1-A championship in 1999.

In the 4-A championship, Georgia Tech recruit Vad Lee of Durham Hillside completed 14 of 25 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns in the Hornets' 40-0 domination of Davie County at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem. He also rushed for 36 yards in the Hornet victory. For the season, Lee finished with 3,223 yards passing.

Durham Hillside 12, New Bern 7

DURHAM -- Something had to give.

In a clash of 4-A titans, undefeated Durham Hillside hosted undefeated and equally impressive New Bern on Friday night at Russell Blunt stadium.

After the Bears' No. 2 -- quarterback Josh Taylor -- dazzled in the first half, it was the Hornets' No. 2 -- Vad Lee -- that ultimately stole the show. Lee threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to Aquez Willis and darted for a 62-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, leading Hillside to a 12-7 victory and a spot in next Saturday's 4-A championship game.

Hillside's Lee picks Georgia Tech

Durham Hillside senior Vad Lee will take his dual-threat quarterback skills to Georgia Tech with plans of putting them to use in the triple-option offense coached by Paul Johnson that helped the Yellow Jackets win the 2009 ACC title.

Lee passed for 1,416 yards and rushed for 675 more last season.

"The offense fits him good," said Hillside coach Antonio King. "He has a great relationship with the coaches. He enjoyed himself every time he went down there."
