The owners of University Mall in Chapel Hill are taking a unique grassroots approach to pulling in a new tenant for the mall.

They've turned to Facebook to ask American Apparel fans to show their support for the clothing and retail chain to open in the mall.

Here's what Denise Browning, vice president of leasing for Madison Marquette, wrote on the "Bring American Apparel to Chapel Hill" Facebook page:

As owners of University Mall, we want American Apparel here because we know it will be a great catalyst for attracting other top notch national brands that will mix well with our already top notch local brands such as A Southern Season and Modern Times. We’d also welcome your thoughts on what other retailers you want us to bring to University Mall. Leave a comment here or on our Fan Page.
