UNC 37, Virginia 13: The look back

CHAPEL HILL — And after a long of driving (well, riding) and working on a couple of other stories, I’m back from Charlottesville, where North Carolina defeated Virginia 37-13 on Thursday night at Scott Stadium.

It’s been long enough, now, so let’s get right to it … the look back at the good, the bad and everything in between about the Tar Heels victory …

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Just five days before North Carolina’s 37-13 victory against Virginia on Thursday night, the Tar Heels had allowed 68 points during a dubious, history-making loss against Georgia Tech.

UNC’s defensive players returned to campus on Sunday, one day after that loss, and UNC coach Larry Fedora saw pain in their eyes. He wanted to see that. He wanted them to hurt. And then he wanted them to forget, and to become stronger from the experience.

After his team’s performance on Thursday night – after UNC’s Tre Boston returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown, and after the defense twice made important stands when the Cavaliers were threatening deep in Tar Heels’ territory – Fedora thought back to a few days ago.
