AT&T U-Verse adds new channel

AT&T U-Verse has added the ReelzChannel network to their line-up.

ReelzChannel network bills itself as "TV about movies," providing "entertaining and informative programming that is all about movies, including the celebrities, fashion, music and stories behind the stories." Their programs feature movie and entertainment experts such as Leonard Maltin, Richard Roeper and Sam Rubin, and they have show of movie trailers, clips, and interviews with directors and stars. There's also a ton of content on their website.

ReelzChannel airs on channel 799 on U-Verse and is already available on DirecTV (238) and Dish Network (299).

AT&T's U-verse has surpassed 13,000 customers in the state

AT&T introduced its U-verse service in this state in November 2008, touting its product as a serious competitor to cable TV. Since then, the company has signed up more than 13,000 customers in more than 80 towns and cities in the state.

That number offers a rare glimpse at the local penetration of U-verse. The telecommunications company typically provides national figures but refuses to break down regional customers totals.

Cynthia Marshall, President of AT&T North Carolina, shared the local customer figure this morning during a meeting with News & Observer writers and editors. AT&T is better known to most customers as a provider of telephone, wireless and Internet services.

AT&T's U-verse adds caller ID on TV screens

Your TV now interrupts your regularly scheduled broadcast with a news flash: who's calling you on the phone.

AT&T is introducing a caller ID feature for its U-verse service, a competitor to cable television. When a call comes in, the feature pops a msg on the TV screen, showing viewers who's calling and the caller's phone number.

The feature was activated today for U-verse customers in Raleigh and Chapel Hill. U-verse customers in Charlotte got the caller ID feature last month.

AT&T hikes rates for U-verse cable TV service

On the heels of Time Warner Cable announcing annual rate increases, AT&T is raising rates on its U-verse cable TV service.

Like Time Warner's cable customers, U-verse subscribers will see monthly increases of $3 to $5. U-verse rates go up Feb. 1, while Time Warner's will increase Dec. 27.

AT&T spokesman Joe Chandler said that for most customers this is the first rate increase since the company launched the service in June 2006.
