Hansbrough: "The sky is falling"

Former All America Tyler Hansbrough made a few records fall at North Carolina during his four-year career. Now, the Indiana Pacers' forward is making the sky fall — at least in the imaginations of people who want to listen to him read "Chicken Little."

As part of the NBA franchise's Call-A-Pacer program, folks can dial the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library to hear Hansbrough read the children's story. (Dial 317-275-4444 to listen to Hansbrough's recorded story.)

Former Tar Heels teammate Bobby Frasor couldn’t help but poke fun at his pal about reciting lines including, “The sky is falling” on Twitter this morning, writing “This could be the greatest thing ever,” and listing the number. Frasor also tweeted to author Nicholas Sparks: “if you need to sell some more audio books, then I suggest hiring @THANS50 and his angelic voice to narrate.”

Former Duke players Josh McRoberts and Dahntay Jones  – who now team with Hansbrough in Indianapolis – already had their turns, by the way. McRoberts read Dr. Seuss’ “I’m Not Going to Get Up Today” the week of April 18; Jones read “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andreae the week of April 4. Former Blue Devil Mike Dunleavy will read “T is for Terrible” by Peter McCarty, beginning June 20.

UNC's Lawson, Hansbrough to reunite?

Last June, the Indiana Pacers chose North Carolina forward Tyler Hansbrough over North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson with the No. 13 overall draft pick.

If rumors are true, the former teammates who led UNC to the 2009 national title, could be reunited in the near future.

Other Hansbrough exits early

A year after one Hansbrough won the NCAA title, another went out in the first-round of the tournament.

North Carolina's Tyler closed out his career with a win; Notre Dame's Ben has another year left after Thursday's 51-50 loss to Old Dominion, although through no fault of his own.

More excitement building for Hansbrough

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina coach Roy Williams said the retirement of Tyler Hansbrough's No. 50 jersey would be "off the charts" if the 13-10 Tar Heels were playing better. But he knows the official ceremony, which will take place at halftime of Wednesday's game against Duke, will be "fantastic."

"One of these days, when I'm sitting back in my golf cart and waiting for my time to tee it up, I'm going to think about how special it was to coach Tyler Hansbrough,'' Williams said. "I'm going to think of how lucky I was to coach Tyler Hansbrough. I'm going to think of how effective he was for our team; because he set the standard. We had the national championship in 2005, so he didn't have to legitimize our program again or anything like that, but he set a standard for four years for everybody that stepped out on the court.

"And even some of his own teammates -- no, all of his teammates, at some time -- were in awe of what he did. And that's pretty neat."

The 5-feet-by-8-feet banner commemorating his jersey was already in the rafters for Tuesday's practice. It is only the eighth number to be retired.

Excitement building for Hansbrough

After playing in the shadow of the Smith Center's retired jerseys and meeting the men who wore them, Tyler Hansbrough can't wait to join them tomorrow.

"I'm really excited just to come back," he said Tuesday from Indianapolis. "It's a big deal for me just to be there. Everybody who wore those jerseys, I watched them all and I have a great deal of respect for them. For me to be in that category is something I take pride in."

More numbers coming to Smith Center rafters

It's going to be busy during North Carolina's final home games of the
season, even when the current players aren't competing on the court.

Former Tar Heel guards Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington, starters on last
year’s national championship team, will have their jerseys honored
prior to the Feb. 13 game against N.C. State, a team spokesman said.

SI hearts Ol' Roy and Psycho T but not Shav

It's almost 2010 which means the "Best of Decade" lists are at full throttle. Sports Illustrate's Seth Davis rates Roy Williams as the "Coach of the Decade" and Tyler Hansbrough as the POD.

Don't worry, Duke, you weren't left out. Davis, who went to Duke, calls Shavlik Randolph the "Biggest Recruiting Bust." Ouch.

Ellington, Williams to have jerseys honored, too

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina four-time All-America Tyler Hansbrough was already scheduled to have his jersey retired, and former teammate Ty Lawson, a first-team All-America, was already scheduled to have his jersey honored.

But two additional jerseys -- those of Wayne Ellington and Donald Williams -- will soon be hung in the Smith Center rafters, as well.

UNC's Hansbrough: Finding a little girl's lost dog

Oh, that Tyler Hansbrough. When he isn't out-hustling everyone and winning a national championship, he's finding a little girl's lost dog.

Or at least that's the deal in this new AT&T commercial shot at UNC Chapel Hill.

Check it out.

UNC's title teams could face off

From Sunday's College Basketball column:

Ever since North Carolina won its fifth NCAA title in April, there's been a good-natured debate brewing about which championship team is better: 2005 or 2009?

On Sept. 4, those bragging rights will be on the line.
