Durham food blogger Johanna Kramer has a new book, "Food Lovers' Guide to Raleigh, Durham & Chapel Hill: The Best Restaurants, Markets & Local Culinary Offerings."

The book launch party is from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at G2B gastropub in Durham. You have to RSVP for that event at johannakramer.com.

Mark your calendar: the 7th annual Eastern Triangle Farm Tour is set for Sept. 15 and 16.

The public can visit 23 farms from Moncure to Louisburg between 1-5 p.m. each day. The event happens rain or shine.

A few of the participating farms include the SEEDS educational garden near downtown Durham, the goat cheese makers at Prodigal Farm in north Durham, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Farm in Raleigh and Turtle Mist Farm in Franklinton, which is home to sheep, cattle, turkeys, ducks, quail, peafowl, guineas and Berkshire hogs.

The farm tour costs $25 per car if you purchase tickets ahead of time. Tickets can be purchased online at www.carolinafarmstewards.org/etft/ or at Harmony Farms store in Raleigh or Whole Foods stores throughout the Triangle.

If you wait until the day of the event, tickets cost $30 for the tour or $10 per farm.

Chef Amy Tornquist is having a grand opening at her new Durham bakery, Hummingbird, from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. The new bakery is located down the street from her restaurant,  Watts Grocery, at a renovated building at 721 Broad St.

In the email that went out this afternoon, it says, "The bakery will put a sweet spin on Tornquist's ingredient-driven, locally-sourced cuisine. Indulge in treats such as syrups, jams, pickled green tomatoes, homemade marshmallows and ice cream sandwiches. Watts Grocery's wildly popular cocktail, "Watts New," a refreshing blend of house-made hibiscus tea, ginger infused simple syrup, fresh lemon juice and ginger soda, will be available for the first time as a take-home mix."

Beyond the bakery and Watts Grocery, Tornquist also owns Sage & Swift Catering.

The drugstores are offering some nice bargains this week but the real steals and deals are at Kroger, where milk is $1.99 per gallon, bread and buns are just 88 cents and the list of products under 50 cents is impressive.

Here are a few highlights:

At CVS, Heinz Ketchup is 50 cents, Renuzit air fresheners are 70 cents and Listerine is 99 cents for a 500ml bottle. There are also nice deals on Revlon nail polish and lip colors.

At Rite Aid, stock up on free hand sanitizer, free and cheap pain relievers and 49-cent Hershey's Simple Pleasures. There's also a nice deal on Lysol products that you can combine with a mail-in rebate, a nice M&Ms deal and a discounted gift card deal.

At Walgreens, you can pick up 25-cent Crest toothpaste and Oral B flossers, 40-cent Chex Mix, Dial hand soap for 60 cents and a super deal on Tresemme hair products.

But as I mentioned, the very best deals are at Kroger. On top of the cheap milk and bread, you can pick up free Chex Mix, bottles of Dial hand soap for 18 cents and cheap deals on Fiber One bars, Nabisco Snack Saks, Birds Eye Steamfresh veggies, Hefty Storage Bags, Dannon Oikos Greek yogurt, and the list goes on.
