Drugstore deals, Nov. 25-Dec. 1

If you scored some of the many drugstore freebie deals offered over the holiday weekend, it's time to start spending all those rewards before they expire.

I like to use them to stock up on necessities like toilet paper and then use what's left to "roll" into new deals that will yield new rewards to keep my freebies coming and my stockpile fresh.

Here are a few of the better deals I spotted this week at CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens. Please feel free to chime in with any good deals you discovered.

Kroger deals, Nov. 25-Dec. 1

Look for good deals on oranges, tangerines, Clementines, chicken breasts, ground chuck, Progresso soups and Ziploc containers at Kroger this week.

The quadruple fuel rewards continue and there's also a prescription transfer deal.

Updated: Where to find your Thanksgiving bird at a bargain price

I've bumped this post up for those among us who have yet to buy a bird for Thanksgiving.

Make room in your freezer fridge, folks.

It's time to buy your Thanksgiving turkey.

And you're in luck because most Triangle stores have the birds on deep discount in hopes that once you've picked your turkey, you'll wander the aisles, filling your cart with all the fixings to go with your Thanksgiving meal.

Be warned, however, that to get that bargain-price, many of the stores' deals require a minimum purchase and some of the stores are limiting the number of turkeys you may purchase.

To help you find the best deal, here's a sampling of turkey prices, along with all the fine print:

Kroger deals, Nov. 18-24

Many of last week's best deals are repeating this week at Kroger, including good buys on Thanksgiving turkeys, a free milk promotion and a P&G promo that shaves $4 off your order.

You can also pick up sweet potatoes for 39 cents per pound, 16 oz. sour cream for $1 and four pounds of Domino sugar for $1.50.

In addition, Kroger is offering its popular gift card promotion -- valid through Dec. 9 -- that gives you quadruple fuel rewards.

Kroger to close two Triangle stores

Kroger announced today it will be closing two Triangle stores -- both of them in Raleigh.

The closings, which are scheduled for January, will bring the number of Kroger stores in the Triangle to 14.

A majar player nationwide, Kroger has faced stiff competition in the Triangle from Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods and Food Lion.

Looking for Black Friday shoppers

Hey folks. I need your help.

Black Friday is looming and I need your thoughts -- both positive and negative.

I'm working on an upcoming story and need to interview folks who fall into the two Black Friday camps:

*die-hard, bargain-loving shoppers formulating a Black Friday game plan.

*and those who prefer to do their shopping in their jammies.

Shoot me an email at adunn@newsobserver.com with your contact information. I promise I won't take any more than 10 to 15 minutes of your time.

Wednesday grocery deals, Nov. 7-13

Deals on Thanksgiving turkeys and all the holiday fixings dominate this week's supermarket circulars. Each of the grocery stores is trying to lure shoppers in with low-price turkeys and sales on canned fruits and vegetables, cranberries, potatoes, dinner rolls, paper plates, vanilla extract, flour, sugar and more.

Harris Teeter also has a killer deal on cereals for 25 cents each and milk for $2.97 per gallon. Lowes Foods is offering bonus gasoline rewards. Food Lion has some worthwhile BOGO deals. And Aldi is offering its $1 whole fresh pineapple along with other stellar produce deals.

Updated again: Harris Teeter Super Doubles freebies and good deals list, Oct. 31-Nov. 6

Updated to include unadvertised specials.

Here's a long list of freebies and good deals for Harris Teeter's Super Doubles coupon event, which will begin at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, in Triangle-area stores.

This update includes 18 freebies and many other ultra cheap deals,  along with a complete list of what coupons to use and where to find them. If it's a printable coupon, you'll find the link to that, too.

Keep in mind, the list is specifically tailored to our area, using local store prices and coupons readily available here, either through newspaper inserts, magazines or Internet printing. No sense getting frustrated looking for a deal we can't get here!

Meanwhile, if you're going to be in Charlotte over the next week, Harris Teeter stores there will be Super Tripling coupons valued at $1 or less.

(For Super Double coupon shopping tips and Harris Teeter's rules during Super Doubles, scroll to the bottom of this post.)

Now on to the freebies and good deals for Super Doubles:

Sunday drugstore deals, Oct. 21-27

CVS has the most generous deals of the three drugstores this week, including four freebies: American Greetings cards, St. Joseph Aspirin, a pumpkin carving tool and liquid Di-gel. You can also pick up a great deal on Scott toilet paper that ends up being 22 cents per roll!

Over at Rite Aid, there are all sorts of deals on cough drops and a 50 percent off sale on most Halloween items.

And at Walgreens, Mitchum products are just a quarter, Speed Stick is 40 cents and Arm & Hammer Spinbrushes are just $3.25 each after coupons. Those make great stocking stuffers if you've started your holiday shopping.

All three stores are offering sales on Halloween candy. Walgreens seems to have the best price -- $1.50 per bag on Fun Size chocolates. But if you have rewards to spend elsewhere, that's probably you're best bet. My rule of thumb: try not to spend more than a nickel a treat.
