Kroger deals, Feb. 17-23

Kroger has good deals this week on mangoes, avocados, organic Fuji apples, Smart Ones frozen meals, Kroger frozen vegetables, Chicken of the Sea tuna (free) and General Mills cereals.

If some of these deals sound familiar that's because Kroger is repeating some -- but not all -- deals from last week.

Database updated with Sunday's new coupons

The News & Observer's  coupon database has been updated with Sunday's new coupons.

The home-delivered Final Edition of The News & Observer contains one coupon book, a Red Plum, with 40 coupons totaling $90 in face value.

Parade magazine also contains one coupon this week.

And be on the look out for a one-page P&G insert with four healthy and beauty coupons, including a BOGO offer on Pantene products. This insert may have been zoned according to address so no guarantees that you received it.

Not familiar with the coupon database? You can access it on the right-hand side of the blog. There's a button at the bottom right to view it as a full-size page.

Or, you can download it as an Excel spreadsheet by clicking on the attachment at the bottom of this post.

It's a handy tool, giving you the most timely and detailed list of coupons in the Triangle.

Two coupon inserts coming in Sunday's N&O

Look for two coupon inserts -- one hefty Smart Source and one Red Plum -- in this Sunday's home-delivered Final Edition of The News & Observer.

There will be a total of  129 coupons with a face value of more than $170 -- and that's before every-day double coupons, which we're fortunate to have at Kroger, Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods.

I'll have the coupon database updated and the best Sunday deals posted early Sunday morning, about the same time your paper hits the driveway. That way, you'll have the most complete and up-to-date coupon information for the Triangle at your finger tips.

Please note: Single-copy and State Edition papers may not contain all coupon inserts.

Kroger news on double coupons

Kroger made big news in the coupon world last week when it announced it will end double coupons in the Cincinnati, Dayton and Northern Kentucky markets.

And it's not the first time Kroger, based in Cincinnati, has pulled the plug on doubling coupons.

The grocery chain, the nation's largest, previously halted double coupon promotions in parts of Texas and California, leaving coupon shoppers wondering if double coupons will eventually become a thing of the past at Kroger-affiliated stores nationwide.

Shrove Tuesday pancake suppers and Lenten fish frys on the horizon

Lent is just around the corner and so are Shrove Tuesday pancake suppers and Friday night fish fries.

The dinner is offered, dine-in or take-out, from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. There is free babysitting while parents enjoy the meal. The church is at 625 Magdala Place. Diners can pre-order their meals online at www.lentfishfry.com.
  • St. Michael the Archangel Church in Cary is hosting its annual Lenten fish frys every Friday until March 22. Lunch is served 11 a.m.-1 p.m and dinner is served from 5-7 p.m. Both dine-in and take-out are available. The menu includes fried or baked fish, roasted potatoes, green beans, hush puppies, dessert and a choice of beverage. Childrens' meals include fish sticks, macaroni and cheese, hush puppies, dessert and a beverage. The prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children for lunch, and $10 for adults and $4 for children for dinner. Or you can order a family special for $28, which includes two adult meals or three or more children's meals.
If you are a fan of polka, the Polka Plus Band will perform during the March 8 dinner service. The church is at 804 High House Rd., Cary. Call in a take-out order at 919-468-6126 or order online at spicecubed.com/fish.
