Kroger deals, April 14-20

Look for great deals at Kroger this week on milk -- just $2.88 per gallon -- along with several great produce deals, including apples, pears, squash and eggplant for just 99 cents per pound.

In addition, the "Buy 5, Save $5" promotion continues, which means you'll have a second week to pick up good deals on General Mills and Cascadian Farm cereal, Minute Rice, Blue Diamond almonds and other bargains.

Grocery deals, April 10-16

Triangle grocery stores have lots of good deals this week:

*At Harris Teeter, pick up nice deals on orange juice, mustard, pasta, frozen pizza, deli-style sliced cheese and subs from the deli.

*At Lowes Foods, whole chicken fryers are just 77 cents per pound. Plus, you'll find good deals on Chobani yogurt, Tribe Hummus and Russet potatoes.

*At Food Lion, chicken breasts, strawberries, tomatoes, apples, Hunt's pasta sauce, Betty Crocker frosting and All laundry detergent are all bargain-priced this week.

*And at Aldi, cantaloupe are just $1.29 each, a fantastic price. There are also nice prices on multicolored peppers, apples, avocados, spinach and tomatoes.

Treat yourself to a free cone at Ben & Jerry's on Tuesday, April 9

Tuesday is Ben & Jerry's annual Free Cone Day, which means free ice cream for you tomorrow, April 9.

Show up at a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shops and you'll receive a free ice cream cone. You choose the flavor.

Kroger deals, April 7-13

Look for good deals at Kroger this week on split-chicken breasts, ground beef, bacon, Turkey Hill ice cream, Hellmann's mayonnaise, General Mills and Cascadian Farm cereal, Minute Rice, Sara Lee bread, along with potential good deals on Colgate toothpaste and Tresemme hair products.

There's also a new deal that saves you $5 instantly at the register when you purchase five participating products.

*At Harris Teeter, pick up nice deals on All laundry detergent, Chobani yogurt, Ball Park franks, McCain potatoes, PictSweet veggies, Triscuits, Bertolli Olive Oil, Fresh Express salad and milk. Also, be sure to check out the Starbucks and P&G promotions.

*At Lowes Foods, score good deals on Ball Park Franks, General Mills cereals, Quaker Perfect Portions oatmeal, Dole Fruit Crisps and Mueller's whole wheat pasta, along with some nice produce deals and more than a dozen opportunities to earn bonus gasoline rewards.

*At Food Lion, pick up nice deals on Turkey Hill ice cream, Fresh Express salad, Butterball turkey sausage, Buddig lunchmeats, Folger's coffee and Weight Watchers frozen dinners, along with Boston butt, green peppers and tomatoes. There's also a four-day sale on Charmin, Bounty, Tide, Lay's potato chips and fresh sausage or brats.

*And at Aldi, pick up bananas for 44 cents per pound, red grapes for 99 cents per pound and a 2-lb. bag of pears for $1.49. That's 75 cents per pound, a fantastic deal.

Taste Carolina celebrates 4 years with series of fun foodie events

To celebrate its fourth anniversary, Taste Carolina food tour company is branching out from offering tours of the Triangle's foodie hot spots.

Owner Leslie Stracks-Mullem has organized a series of events highlighting how food artisans and chefs partner with local farmers.

The company hopes people will buy tickets to all multiple events. To attend all six, it costs $249. Five events cost $215. Four costs $180 and three costs $138. Remaining tickets for each event will go on sale one week prior to the event. Tickets can be purchased online at tastecarolina.com.

Here is the schedule:

  • 6 p.m. April 18, a tour of Chapel Hill Creamery's farm followed by a cheese dinner at Acme Food & Beverage Co. in Carrboro.
  • 6:15 p.m. April 23, a cooking demonstration and dinner featuring The Farmer's Daughter and Farmhand Foods with Piedmont Wine Imports at Eastern Carolina Organics.
  • 6 p.m. April 30, A night that combines beer, hot sauce, food trucks, and ice cream. Learn about five local companies while enjoying food and drink. The companies include Cackalacky Hot Sauce, Fullsteam Brewery, Pie Pushers, American Meltdown and The Parlour.
  • 6 p.m. May 7, a tour of TOPO distillery and a tasting at The Crunkleton in Chapel Hill.
  • 6 p.m. May 14, a tasting visit to several of Durham's taquerias followed by a tour of Locopops.
  • 5:45 p.m. May 22, a tour of Two Chicks Farm followed by dinner at Panciuto in Hillsborough.
  • Drugstore deals, March 31-April 6

    Triangle drugstores are offering deals this week on Oral B power toothbrushes, Fixodent, Crest Rinse, Suave products, Mars candy, Xtra laundry detergent, Pampers, Edy's ice cream, Chobani yogurt and Maxwell House coffee.

    Also be sure to check out the freebies this week, which include Clear Scalp Therapy at CVS, 7UP Ten, Sunkist Ten and A&W Ten 2 liters at Walgreens.

    *At Lowes Foods, you'll find bargains on Dixie Crystals sugar, Land O Lakes butter, Jell-O, Philadelphia Brand Cream Cheese and lots of other other Kraft Foods products. There's also a gift card deal and a gasoline rewards promotion.

    *At Food Lion, the "Big Deal" promotion continues, which takes $5 off your grocery order instantly when you buy 10 participating products. That means you'll have another week to stock up on a stellar deal on Yoplait yogurt. After coupons, store promotion and a Catalina coupon, it's a moneymaker. Look for coupon match-ups below.
