Cary, Athens to play for 3rd tonight

The regular season ended last night for the Tri-Nine Conference, but one more game has yet to be played. Cary and Athens Drive finished tied for third in the conference after last night's season finales, and since the two split the season series, they will play a tiebreaker match tonight.

The game is set for 5 p.m. at Middle Creek High.

The winner of the match will have a home first-round match against the 3-seed from the Southeastern Conference, while the fourth-seed will be on the road against the 2-seed from the PAC-6 Conference.

First day results: Tri-9 girls tennis championships

Here are the results after the first day of action at the Tri-Nine girls tennis championships, held at the Cary Tennis Center. The semifinals are expected to start around 2 p.m. today.

Apex three-peats the Tri-Nine

By knocking off Green Hope for the second time this year, the Apex volleyball team claimed its third straight conference title on Monday.

Apex, undefeated at 19-0 (14-0) is ranked No. 15 in the nation and has now won three of the last four conference championships.
