Chapman will replace L.J. Hepp, who left to become the director of basketball operations at the University of South Carolina. Hepp often credited Chapman with devising the Catamounts' defensive schemes, even once asking reporters to interview Chapman after a game.
Panther Creek posted a 28-3 record last year, winning the Tri-Eight's regular season and conference championships. Chapman has 12 years of experience as an assistant varsity coach, head junior varsity coach and freshman head coach.
Schuler said Chapman would begin head men's basketball coach duties immediately.
"After an extensive search process, we are convinced that Travis is the right person for the job. Coach Chapman has the respect of the players and school community, he understands our school culture and he's committed to maintaining a basketball program centered around high academic and high character standards," Schuler said.
"We are fortunate to have a person with Coach Chapman's talent and integrity willing and eager to work with our student-athletes. I’m looking forward to working with Travis and the rest of the basketball staff as we continue to develop our basketball program."
Chapman teaches science classes at the school.
