Saturday's Rally For A Cure golf tournament benefts breast cancer research

Golfers take up their clubs Saturday in support of breast cancer
research during the Rally For A Cure At Lochmere benefit golf
tournament at Lochmere Golf Club in Cary. 

The tournament is
part of the nationwide network of golf events that started in 1996 in
support of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Proceeds from
Saturday's event support the Susan G. Komen Foundation Triangle
Chapter. 

Shotgun starts are at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., leaving plenty
of time for golfers to attend the Spring Daze festival in at Bond Park
in Cary and to play a round at Lochmere.

N.C. player advances to Easter Bowl girls 18s showdown

Revenge could be a theme when Greenville's Lauren Herring plays her
match today at the 43rd annual Easter Bowl Spring National
Championships tennis tournament.

Playing in the girls 18s ITF
quarterfinals, Herring could be seeking a bit of revenge against an
opponent, Lauren Davis, who, in turn, might be seeking a bit of revenge
against Herring in the match at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho
Mirage, Calif.

Cary, Raleigh boys win golf titles

One of the perks of living in North Carolina is rarely having to stop
playing golf. Tournament series continue over the winter, and hardy
golfers turn out to compete.

Among the winter golfers are the juniors who compete in the Eastern Junior Golf Association, which visited Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington on Feb. 6-7.

Andrew Fowler of Cary and Eric Bae of Raleigh were among the champions crowned on Sunday at the invitational event.

Triangle Volleyball Club aims for Guinness World Records entry

The Triangle Volleyball Club is going for a world record.

Club athletes, staff and participants in next month's Mid-Atlantic
Power League tournament will attempt to win a place among the Guinness
World Records for the number of consecutive volleyball passes, said
Sherry Fadool, associate director of the Morrisville-based Triangle
Volleyball Club.

The record attempt will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Raleigh
Convention Center as a prelude to the Mid-Atlantic Power League’s Feb.
6-7 MAPL Raleigh 2010 tournament at the convention center.
