What to Watch on Wednesday: Big premieres, bigger finales

Survivor: Nicaragua (8pm, CBS) - The 21st edition of this CBS reality show begins tonight with a special "old vs. young" competition, featuring former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson and three contestants from North Carolina. Be sure to check back with us after the show for a recap.

MasterChef (8pm, Fox) - The winner of the first season is announced. I have no prediction but I'm pulling for 22-year-old Whitney. The winner gets $250,000, a cookbook deal, and the title "America's Best Home Cook."

America's Got Talent (8pm, NBC) - The winner of Season 5 is revealed in a two-hour special.

Big Brother 12 (9pm, CBS) - The jury votes for the winner of the $500,000 prize in the season finale.

Dark Blue (9pm, TNT) - Two new back-to-back episodes with the 10pm episode marking the second season finale. In the finale, the gang tries to stop a terrorist smuggling dirty bomb components into the country.

Ma's Roadhouse (9pm, TruTV) - A new reality series following a Dallas man who oversees a bar, a tattoo parlor, and a motorcycle shop with plenty of input from his opinionated 71-year-old mother, who also manages his bar. Two new back-to-back episodes tonight.

Outlaw (10pm, NBC) - A new pilot starring Jimmy Smits as a Supreme Court justice who quits the court to return to private practice, traveling the country with his legal team taking on controversial cases.

Top Chef: Washington, DC (10pm, Bravo) - The winner (please don't be Angelo) is announced in tonight's finale from Singapore. The winner (please don't be Angelo) receives $125,000.

Top Chef: Just Desserts (10pm, Bravo) - This delicious "Top Chef" spinoff debuts after the D.C. finale. Check out our review.

"Top Chef: Just Desserts" will make you drool

Bravo hopes to keep America drooling long after tonight's finale of "Top Chef: Washington, DC," launching a new spinoff that will send viewers to bed with Willy Wonka dreams of chocolate ganache, caramel buttercream, and raspberry coulis.

"Top Chef: Just Desserts" has the exact same premise as the regular "Top Chef" -- a group of hopefuls compete in quickfire and elimination challenges, are judged by a panel of accomplished foodies, and one is eliminated each week until a winner remains.

The glaring difference, judging by the first episode (at least in comparison to the most recent season of "Top Chef"), is that this particular group of chefs seem to skew significantly more insecure and slightly more, um, psycho than their arrogant counterparts.

What to Watch on Wednesday: "Top Chef" moves finale to Singapore

America's Next Top Model (8pm, CW) - The 15th installment begins with 32 hopeful models in Palm Springs.

Hellcats (9pm, CW) - A new series about a pre-law student who wins a spot on her Memphis university's fiercely competitive cheering squad.

Dark Blue (9pm, TNT) - New back-to-back episdoes tonight. In the first, Carter and his squad try to wipe out a home invasion gang. At 10pm, possible crooked behavior by a renowned member of the black community rises to the surface when a young black man is shot.

Top Chef: Washington, DC (10pm, Bravo) - I'm a little heartbroken over last week's elimination, but there's a finale to watch so I have to let it go. Tonight is part one of a two-part finale, and the four remaning chefs -- Angelo, Ed, Kelly, and Kevin -- square off in Singapore. If Angelo (right) keeps making love to his dishes, he will most likely win the whole thing.

Psych (10pm, USA) - In the summer finale, a government spy seeks the help of Gus and Shawn to help prove her innocence after she's implicated in a crime. Franke Potente, Jon Gries, and Nestor Carbonell guest star.

Terriers (10pm, FX) - A new series about two low-rent private investigators starring Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James. In tonight's episode they search for an ol friend's daughter. We have more on the show here.

What to Watch on Wednesday: "Top Chef" earns their Emmy

MasterChef (8pm, Fox) - The remaining contestants have to cook for a high-end wedding, but somehow lose the main course.

America's Got Talent (9pm, NBC) - Five winning acts move to the top ten.

Dangerously Devoted (9pm, Animal Planet) - A documentary profiling three pet owners (I swear I'm not one of them) facing life crises because of their extreme affection for their pets. Included is a woman facing eviction because she has 200 dogs. That's two hundred dogs.

Top Chef (10pm, Bravo) - Fresh off their Emmy Award win for Best Reality Show, "Top Chef" charges their remaining contestants with creating tasty space-food dishes. The winning dish is then served in actual space. Buzz Aldrin (right) gives his opinion and the guest chef-judges are Anthony Bourdain and Dana Cowin.

Psych (10pm, USA) - In an episode called Shawn 2.0, Shawn meets his match when a talented criminal profiler helps investigate a series of murders involving organ donors on a liver transplant list. Nestor Carbonell, who played Richard Alpert on "Lost," guest stars as the profiler who not only threatens to steal Shawn's limelight, but also threatens to steal the heart of Juliette.

What to Watch on Wednesday: "Top Chef" plays ball

MasterChef (8pm, Fox) - Oh so trendy. The contestants are asked to make a single cupcake, which proves to be harder than it sounds. Then guest Cat Cora takes them to a truck stop for a team challenge.

Ghost Hunters (9pm, Syfy) - New episodes are back. The team investigates the Otesaga Resort in Cooperstown, NY. Read what a true fan thinks of tonight's Season 6 premiere.

Top Chef: Washington, DC (10pm, Bravo) - The six remaining chefs take over two concession stands at the Washington Nationals baseball park to create snacks that add a "high end culinary quality" to ballpark fare. Haughty Angelo started strong but Tiffany (right) is my favorite. I think it's Tiffany and Kevin (or Ed?) in the finale. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Tonight, baseball players Adam Dunn, Matt Capps, and John Lannan make appearances. The guest judge is chef Rick Moonen.

Psych (10pm, USA) - Shawn and Gus help a guard round up escaped inmates on a ferry boat en route to the Channel Islands.

Criss Angel: Mindfreak (10pm, A&E) - Criss tries to break the Guiness World Record for the most people to "vanish" in one place. People are picked at random and shackled together.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Season finales for "Dance," "Work of Art"

Big Brother (8pm, CBS) - Big Brother 11 winner (and NC native) Jordan Lloyd visits the house tonight with her buddy Jeff Schroeder, and the Power of Veto competition is held.

So You Think You Can Dance (8pm, Fox) - Tonight is the two-hour finale and all three final dancers perform. Clarification: by "finale" we mean tonight is the final night of performances. The winner will be announced on Thursday's show.

Top Chef: Washington, DC (9pm, Bravo) - It's Restaurant Wars night! The contestants are divided into teams to run a D.C. restaurant, and will be serving Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and food critic Frank Bruni.

Work of Art (10pm, Bravo) - In the season 1 finale, the remaining artists have to create art in their respective homes and then show the art at a final gala. This blog is pulling for Abdi (right) all the way.

Hot in Cleveland (10pm, TV Land) - Joe Jonas guest stars as Melanie's son, who comes for a visit. Also, Elka helps Victoria campaign for sympathy votes after she's nominated for an Emmy.

Psych (10pm, USA) - Shawn and Gus infiltrate a drag-racing ring to find the killer of a car thief, but Shawn gets a little too caught up in life in the fast lane and jeopardizes the case.

The greatest "Top Chef" scandal of all time?

It's all going down in D.C. so is there any surprise we have a scandal?

You "Top Chef" fans know what I'm talking about. Check out Andrea Weigl's take on last night's Pea Puree-gate over at the Mouthful blog.

Pea puree-gate of Top Chef D.C.

So Top Chef fans, do you think he stole that pea puree?

I'm talking about last night's episode of Bravo's competition cooking franchise.

Chef Ed, who I like because he's not arrogant like Angelo, made a pea puree for the elimination round while prepping back in the Hilton's kitchen. However, when they get to the off-site restaurant kitchen for the challenge, Ed's pea puree can't be found in any of the coolers. But Chef Alex is wandering around with a pot of pea puree. Bravo keeps things interesting by showing no footage of Alex making his pea puree. Alex's pea puree clinches him the victory in last night's elimination challenge, raising eyebrows all over the kitchen.  So what do you think? Did Alex steal the pea puree or was it just a coincidence?

For more fun, go on Twitter and follow the debate using the #peapuree hashtag.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Sir Paul at the White House

Paul McCartney: The Gershwin Prize for Popular Song (8pm, UNC-TV) - President Obama presents Sir Paul McCartney with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song at a White House ceremony, which features performances by McCartney, Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder, Jack White, Emmylou Harris, Corrine Bailey Rae, and others. Plus a monologue from Jerry Seinfeld.

Top Chef: Washington, DC (9pm, Bravo) - The chefs prepare a power lunch tasted by chef Art Smith, members of Congress, and also journalists Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Savannah Guthrie.

Work of Art (10pm, Bravo) - The artists break into pairs and make artwork inspired by polarizing themes, such as order and chaos. On the previews, host China Chow is crying when she announces who is going home, so I can't wait to see what that's about. I can only think of one contestant I'd be really sad to see leave... Guest judge is painter Ryan McGinniss.

Psych (10pm, USA) - Shawn and Gus try to stay objective while investigating an alleged alien abduction with an old friend.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Huey Lewis gets hot in Cleveland

America's Got Talent (9pm, NBC) - Things get tense when judges Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel, and Piers Morgan have to decide on the Top 48 (48!?) contestants.

Ghost Hunters Academy (9pm, Syfy) - In the Season 1 finale, Colorado's Stanley Hotel is investigated (you know it from "The Shining"), and the top cadet is named.

Hot in Cleveland (10pm, TV Land) - Victoria's old flame, Johnny Revere, is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (which is conveniently located in Cleveland). Huey Lewis (right) guest stars as Revere.

Top Chef: Washington, DC (9pm, Bravo) - The chefs have to make food for Padma's baby in the Quick Fire challenge. For the elimination challenge, they must create room service breakfast, lunch, and dinner for discerning hotel guests. Former "Top Chef" contestants Brian Voltaggio, Michael Isabella, and Spike Mendelsohn

Work of Art: The Next Great Artist (10pm, Bravo) - Favorite new reality show. The remaining contestants motor through New York City in a fleet of cars and then must create art inspired by their drive. Painter Richard Phillips is the guest judge.

The Choir (10pm, BBC America) - A new reality series about a man trying to put together a world class choir in a tough high school in Middlesex, England, in just nine months. It sounds like a real life British version of "Glee."
