What to Watch on Saturday: Get Elfed. Or Scrooged.

Jesse Stone: No Remorse (8pm, CBS) - This is a repeat, but it's pretty good. It's  Tom Selleck's sixth movie as New England police chief Jesse Stone. In this one, Jesse investigates a series of murders in Boston that may be linked to a mob boss, while deputies Rose (Kathy Baker) and Suitcase (Kohl Sudduth) probe a crime spree in Paradise.

Elf (8pm, USA) - A human (Will Ferrell, left) who has been raised by elves leaves the North Pole to search for his birth father (James Caan) in New York. It's hilarious. Also stars Bob Newhart, Edward Asner, Mary Steenburgen, and Zoey Deschanel.

Scrooged (8pm, AMC) - A twist on the Dickens classic with Bill Murray as a miserly TV executive who learns the true meaning of Christmas. Also stars John Forsythe, Bobcat Goldthwait, Robert Mitchum, and Carol Kane.

TV's Funniest Holiday Moments (8pm, Fox) - Jane Lynch counts down 30 memorable TV holiday moments, including scenes from "Cheers," "Family Guy," and "Friends."

48 Hours Mystery (10pm, CBS) - Members of the Gotti family discuss their father, the deceased godfather John Gotti, and life inside the mob.

Heads up for Sunday: Turner Classic Movies is having an all-day marathon of live-action Disney classics, starting at 6:30am with "Old Yeller." You might want to go ahead and set your DVR tonight if you think you'll be in the mood to cry till you heave anytime soon. "Pollyanna" comes on at 8am, then "The Apple Dumpling Gang" at 10:15. Check back here tomorrow morning for the full schedule.

"Blue Bloods" brings two of our favorite genres together well

When you mix a family drama with a cop show, you've at least got the potential for something good. "Blue Bloods" (CBS, 10 tonight) doesn't soar, but it is pretty good, a solid drama with a very good cast.

The show centers around the Reagans, a close-knit Irish-American family of law enforcers. Frank (Tom Selleck) is the New York City Police Commissioner, and a widower; his father Henry (Len Cariou) was the chief, run out, it's hinted, for his brash ways. Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) is a detective and a troubled Iraqi War vet.  He tends to use unorthodox (read: possibly illegal) tactics to do the right thing on the job. Jamie (Will Estes), the youngest brother, is a rookie cop, a Harvard Law grad who switched professions after the death of another brother on the job. He's engaged to a lawyer. Finally, there's Erin (Bridget Moynahan), an assistant district attorney and a single parent.

What to Watch on Sunday: "Amazing Race" finale

Amazing Race 16 (8pm, CBS) - In the season finale, the final three teams travel from Shanghai to San Francisco where they must scale the Coit Tower and participate in a virtual "Star Wars" battle before racing to the finish line and the $1 million prize. Who's still in it? The models (including Miss South Carolina, left), the detectives, and the cowboys.

Jesse Stone: No Remorse (9pm, CBS) - Tom Selleck stars in his sixth movie about the smalltown New England police chief, Jesse Stone. In this one, Jesse investigates a series of murders in Boston that could be related to a mob boss, while his deputies (Kathy Baker, Kohl Sudduth) probe a crime spree at home in Paradise.

Desperate Housewives (9pm, ABC) - Lynnette learns the truth about the creepy little serial killer she has moved into her house, and Bree tries to pay the creepy little son of her first husband to walk away from her family and her business.

Brothers & Sisters (10pm, ABC) - It looks like Ojai Foods is closing down. For real. Or is it?

Breaking Bad (10pm, AMC) - First, here's my quick review of last week's episode in which Hank was gunned down by the vengeful Mexican hitmen: Holy. @#$*. I'm not kidding. The last three of minutes of the episode was as tense and dramatic as anything I have ever seen. Ever. That's the cousins on the right, and yes, one of them is holding an axe. Tonight, as the family awaits word on Hank's condition, Walt realizes he has reason to fear Gus.

Tom Selleck's heavy duty in "Jesse Stone: No Remorse"

Tom Selleck returns tonight (Sunday, CBS, 9pm) in "Jesse Stone: Thin Ice," the sixth film in which he plays a small town police chief created by the late author Robert B. Parker.

Or in this case, a somewhat former small town police chief.

When we meet him in this film, Stone is suspended and fairly certain he won't be returning to work with his colleagues Rose Gammon (Kathy Baker) and Luther Simpson (Kohl Sudduth).

It's an especially bad time for the little Paradise department to be short-handed; someone has viciously beaten and killed a convenience store clerk, and Luther, as temporary police chief, is in over his head when it comes to solving the case.

Meanwhile, Stone gets some consultant work from his friend in Boston,  Commander Healy (Stephen McHattie) who needs help dealing with a string of seemingly random murders.

What to Watch on Sunday: Third season of "Everest" debuts

The Sound of Music (7pm, ABC) - This 1965 Rodgers and Hammerstein classic story based on the memoir of Maria Von Trapp is a holiday tradition. It stars Julie Andrews and this version has been restored to its original length, so commercial playing time is four hours.

Everest: Beyond the Limit (8pm, Discovery) - The first summit of the season yields its first victim in the third season premiere. This season will follow Russel Brice's Himex team as they climb the South face. Three new episodes air tonight.

Jesse Stone: On Thin Ice (8pm, CBS) - A repeat from earlier this year, but a good movie from Tom Selleck's "Jesse Stone" series. In this one, Jesse is under investigation by  Boston PD Internal Affairs for his role in a shooting which leaves his friend seriously injured.

Tom and Rosie's Sad Little Weekend Movies

Let's start with Tom Selleck.

"Jesse Stone: Thin Ice" (Sunday at 9pm):
If you haven't seen Selleck in the other Jesse Stone movies, here's thebackstory. The character is based on one created by writer Robert B. Parker, who did the "Spenser For Hire" stuff.

Stone is a troubled man, a former LAPD officer who drinks a lot of coffee while he tries not to drink a lot of scotch. He's still getting over getting dumped by his actress wife. He's working as the chief in Paradise, Mass. police force -- there are two other officers.

In this movie, he investigates the shooting of a friend (Stone was sitting in a car next to him) and a kidnapped child. The tone is somber, the humor, martini dry. This is for grown people. Selleck never smiles, and although there's a love interest, there isn't much love. It's a very good movie, realistic rather than rosy.

And speaking of Rosie O'Donnell ...
