New to the big shed schedule today -- redneck-rock icon Kid Rock on a bill with simpatico classic-rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd, set for July 24.

Over the past decade, Raleigh's Time-Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek has evolved from a primarily rock venue that did a few country shows on the side to one where country is the main event. So the venue just picked up a fitting accolade. It's a finalist for venue of the year, as presented by the Academy of Country Music. The ACM awards will be presented April 5 in Las Vegas.
You can start marking your calendar now for 2009 rock shows out at Raleigh's big outdoor venue -- Dave Matthews Band is already on the schedule for April 22, according to the band's spring tour schedule. It's the second '09 Walnut Creek show to pop up, after George Strait on May 16.
Also of note is the opening act for Matthews, Cackalacka's own Avett Brothers.
